Where does your cat go at night? It’s a common question that most every feline owner ponders from time to time.

Natural stalkers, hunters, and gatherers cats often enjoy the same activities at night that they enjoy during the day. They also love to roam the neighborhood and sleep under the cover of a bush or other sheltered areas.

However, the overnight hours can introduce various types of wildlife and other dangers. These threats can potentially derail your cat’s plans to come home in a timely manner.

This video explores the most notable activities that cats partake in during the night and also the potential risks involved. You will also learn about the average distance your cat travels while roaming under the moonlight.

We will also detail the value of keeping your cat indoors if you reside in a risky environment that is not suitable for your feline at night.

My cat always wants to go outside at night

My indoor outdoor cat just came home with a collar on and a tag that read "Is this your cat? He comes here everyday and we want to adopt." The opposite side had a phone number. I called and apparently this young lady and her mom had been feeding him (he's overweight) and taking him inside. He comes home every night and is only out from about 10 am to 5pm. I explained he is very much loved and is on a diet, so please stop feeding him and next time he stops by, take your collar back lol. I'm glad they didn't just steal him. He's been indoor outdoor for 12 years and is my bud.

I'm of the opinion that the 'stray' cat that comes to hang out every night at 1030 and leaves every morning ©530 is actually a house pet that is put out at night.

I'm a street sleeper (get my drift) and she's a nice creature comfort(or creature of comfort).

We have an inside kitty. There is also a feral that has lived in our back yard for about a year and a half. We put food and water out for him so he stays. He's no bum though! He has a job. Keeps the pigeons off my patio and the squirrels out of my garden.

I live in the hills so my cat getting run over is unlikely and he does explore at night but comes back when he’s done

My cat loves going outside during the day to chase the birds, she is gone for about 3 hours, comes home to eat and sleep then again in the evening but always comes home when it starts to get dark, she does not like being outside at night for some reason. My other cat is a total indoor cat and is not interested in the outdoors, they are so different.

Yeah, coyotes, bobcats, fisher cats, stray dogs, and others cats. I live in a very rural for more than 35 years now, with no neighbors for ¾ of a miles, and I've never heard of a raccoon chasing down a cat just to kill it. I don't remember any of my neighbors mentioning any raccoon attacks on cats.

When I was a preteen towards my early 20’s that I called both cats names to bed around 9pm when my family was living in Illinois. Both cats went to the basement to bed. They both had their own side of the sleeper sofa. One cat slept on 1 side and the other on the other side. When my family came up towards our vacation home they sleep on a chair bed or sofa or loveseat or one of the chairs in the dining room or on the floor. We had them out during the day till during dinner time. We kept them inside during the winter months. My 2nd cat had encountered raccoons and foxes. Raccoons did bother him at all but, he might chase a fox up a tree. My 2nd cat was a big kitty cat that weighed 20 pounds. He was a little bit on the chubby side. He did played with the 1st cat, too.

Get Apple AirTag and put it on their collar. You know exactly where they are, down to the foot, via an app on your phone. Mine doesn’t go out without one.

I know exactly where my 4 are at night! My nerves couldn't stand the stress of letting them outside! Mine have lots to do inside and lots of shelves to watch birds and prey!

My cat comes into our sunroom at night. I call him in around 8pm and let him back out around 7am. Beyond that, the world is his oyster. I recently bought a gps tracker for him to ensure i can get him in each night.
