So, why did the pandas in Kung Fu Panda forget how to use Chi? Here's the scoop: Originally, pandas were super connected to Chi because their secret village was right above the Wellspring, which is like the source of all Chi in the universe. This made them all powered up to guard it. But when the Wellspring got locked away to keep it safe from dangerous kung fu warriors, the pandas lost that connection and slowly forgot about their guardian duties. Another theory suggests that when Master Oogway, the creator of kung fu, discovered their hidden village, it inadvertently led to the emergence of a formidable villain, "Kai," who wreaked havoc on the pandas, disrupting their way of life.

I have a more important question, how the hell did Po's dad survived Shens massacre since he is shown protecting his family there and then and how did the Pandas survived or recovered if Shen eradicated nearly if not all the Pandas?

I'm guessing the secret panda village was probably one of the first real collective settlements of pandas in china, but then they kind of dispersed once it got really populated and many of those who spread across china forgot their connection to chi. the original gaurdians then were forced to hide their power away and when kai and oogway showed up and kai caused havoc, it pretty much ended the old order of chi gaurdiands and the original village was abandoned.

it was only until shen attacked when the pandas were forced into hiding back in their secret panda village again, po's dad lee being very lucky to be alive himself to have ever made it.

with very few pandas left, they were able to fit in nicely, although dangerously underpopulated so lee and a couple of other pandas still fertile got to work and produced a bunch of children after time of grieving had passed. That's why there were a tonne of baby pandas in the village, cause they were pumping them out till they popped from the windows.

it wasn't until po defeated shen and found the secret panda village and brought back chi mastery to which the pandas went back to their traditional ancient roots. but what I would like to add is the one who managed to preserve the knowledge of chi mastery was oogway for creating the sacred scrolls and teaching shifu how to give chi, even after his brother hurt the pandas, oogway saved them by keeping the art of chi giving alive for the pandas to re-discover and producing a panda warrior to teach and protect them with far long after oogway's ascension.

I hate how they backpedaled the seriousness of the pandas for comic relief in the third movie.

I've gotta wonder why, in the first movie, no one really questioned why there was seemingly just one panda left just walking around and being a Dragon Warrior. Everyone acts like pandas are a common species in that city, but in the second movie, they were all unalived or hidden far away.
Tai was like "He's a _panda, _ you're a _panda._ What're you gonna do big guy, sit on me?" despite most likely never having seen a panda in his life. Tai was only about 40 years old, and the panda massacre happened 100 years ago. Idk, it's just an inaccuracy I noticed.

Po and zhen chose brizalo(a 16 year old male hybrid between a caiman lizard, amadillo lizard and a Chinese crocodile lizard) as a new dragon warrior because in the ending, zhen looked at brizalo being shamed, sad, hopeless, rejected and its slowly leaving the valley of peace, so zhen and po feel bad for brizalo and it realizes how skilled and good at dodging attack is brizalo when fighting the chameleon in the final battle, so po and zhen let everyone give the respect to brizalo, brizalo joined the furious five and became the dragon warrior of the valley of peace.
