Gold is proving its worth as a safe haven and hedge with its price up 32% year to date. Multiple factors are driving the 2024 rally, and if any of those caused an event you'd need to sell, what could you expect? Well, it depends on the choices you made along the way.

You won’t get collector value from a local dealer but that dealer will try to sell it at the collector price.

Buying numismatics is fun (I do it) but I believe it's different from bullion. Buy the collectable stuff because it's fun and the bullion for purely practical reasons

I mostly buy gold for preserving the value of the time I spent working. “Saving” in fiat currency is like storing the fruits of your labor as dry ice…

I did buy an Australian gold swan for my daughter— just like 2 is 1 😃. I wanted to get the design with the mother swan and her baby… but my wife and daughter thought the swan mommy looked sad… so they went with the 2024 swan design… whatever keeps them happy …

Big jump between stacking and collecting don’t forget you’ve got to sell at some point you will take less of a hit if you just buy Standard coins of the realm

The brilliant thing about ancient gold is that although you rightly point out it has a somewhat limited population of dealers and collectors, there are records of people studying, buying and selling them at LEAST since Petrarch, in the 1350s!

Thats nearly 700 years ago! And its quite likely people will still be interested in collecting ancient coins 700 years from now 😄

I'm all in on 1/10 britannias (UK based) they fit my monthly spend, easy to store and easy to sell either at spot to dealers or for a premium on eBay/Facebook. Gold always has been a rainy day fund away from the banks

The market dictates on whether it is worth it or not? I think you should buy with the lowest premium but I appreciate certain coin designs.

You can easily sell a NGC ancient on Heritage Auctions. That's the market for graded ancients.

You mentioned your favorite coin... interestingly, my favorite coin that you show is a *silver* ancient. I like to imagine what common life was like at various points in history and that's a great prop for that imagining

Gold is gold, why buy premium pictures when you can just buy your country’s own standard bullion coin and save money 🤷‍♂️

It's a wretched thing when you have the eye for art but not the budget....😮🎉

I am of the opinion that Gold is Gold, it should still hold it's value, but that does not mean i am buying a Homer Simpson coin or of that category, with the limited funds i have, i have got to choose wisely on what to purchase, which i think the wiser fun coins are the Lunars and Chinese Myths and Legends series. Honestly, you gotta have some fun with this sometimes.

What’s funny is here in Sweden you won’t find a bullion dealer anywhere. There’s some that sales online and a few has a physical shop, however buying and selling numismatic stuff that you can find 1 or 2 shops in any town.

Now me I found myself a 3rd party operator that holds my stuff and I make monthly installments. I will however pick up my physical gold once I save enough.

All in all the past year I’ve been saving 120 grams = 3, 8 ounces along with 140 ounces of silver.

For us this is our “bitcoin” we will continue to buy for as long as we have income. The goal is retirement in about 15 years. But if a gold revaluation happens prior to that, who knows.

Fun Gold like Fun Silver is...fun. It is to enjoy and not get stuck on. Yes technically it's part of your stack but it's not the same thing and any stacker knows this. Fun stuff has a premium that you might not get back when you sell but it's still nice to have and enjoy and admire.

The old lunar tigers are worth a lot. Most of my gold is from Perth Mint.
