Being Puerto Rican, I appreciate you introducing all of these foods. I make them all and love them all. Some have made comments about your pronunciation but, honestly, you did a pretty good job. I think in any restaurant they would understand what you are talking about so, kudos for this video.

Im from Puerto RIco and this is 100% accurate.... The only thing i would add is lechon de Guavate. But this was perfect.

Flan is a big Puertorican dessert. Also, tostones, they are not battered and fried. It's just the plantain cut, fried, smashed and refried.

Pasteles are made different ways, not necessarily from plantains. We can make them from green bananas and/or a combination of roots such as yautia, malanga, ñame, and yuca.

Our empanadillas, also known in parts of the island as pastelillos, do not have a “thicker” crust, on the contrary, it is crispy, light, and airy; we call them pastelillos “volaitos”. Its filling can be the traditional picadillo (seasoned ground beef) or chicken, cheese, jueyes (mangrove crabs), and even guava paste. Thank you for promoting interest in our Puerto Rican foods.

You should also try Flan which originated in Spain and brought to Puerto Rico is an egg custard is delicious, as well as Bacalaito frito that's Cod fish fritters is also delicious. Thank you for this video. I always said that my food is the best. That's my personal opinion.

Mofongo and Alcapurrias are my all time favorites ♡ specifically during the holidays in the island visiting friends and family. It's really good to try Enpanadas and tostones. Love your channel so informative.

My favorite is pastelon the sweetness of the ripe plantains with the flavor of the meat and cheese makes the best combination. It's like having a party in your mouth. My favorite dessert is flancocho. It's a combination of flan and cake mix. Puerto Ricans may mix some things up like Pavochon a version of Lechon or Pernil flavor but with Turkey meat instead of traditional Pork and usually made for Thanksgiving. It's because we found Turkey is a dry meat and a bit unflavored and of course Puerto Ricans decided to take the same seasoning of Lechon and apply it to the Turkey meat and give it that garlic, oregano, adobo salty crispy flavor and texture and keeping the meat inside the turkey moist with monfongo stuffing and homemade chicken broth.

As a representative of the Puerto Rican community I agree 100% with what this man said, a.k.a. if you see these foods being sold in a restaurant eat them you will not regret it.

The difference between pasteles and tamales is tamales are made with corn flour and pasteles are made with plantains green bananas and etc. And tamales are steamed and pasteles are boiled in water. But I agree with how delicious my island food is and you forgot bacalaitos
