What is Lucid Dreaming, and who am I?

Lucid dreaming (sometimes called astral projection although they're not quite the same) is the ability to become SELF AWARE in your dreams, meaning you can control them.

There are also many benefits to lucid dreaming, such as improved sleep, more energy, more confidence, and more restorative sleep. Not to mention the fact you can become more CONSCIOUS and experience the impossible!

I'm Stef, the guy behind HowToLucid, and I'm dedicated to helping you learn how to lucid dream. I've been lucid dreaming for over 8 years now and I have a passion for dreams and travel. Follow my journey, and leave a comment if you've read all of this letting me know your best lucid dream experience!

I had lucid nightmares for years when I was around 9 years old. It was always the same dream and eventually I got so annoyed with it that I just ended up killing myself to wake up. It always worked, and I did wake up but the dreams continued. This one time I jumped off a building to die and wake up except instead of hitting the ground the dream restarted. I remember falling and the ground coming closer and closer and then I was suddenly back in the building where I had originally started in the dream. I was so pissed off that I just sat in the corner and threw a tantrum for not waking up.

Had lucid nightmares all throughout my childhood. I would wake myself every single time, unfortunately. Weirdly enough though, I was never scared of the nightmares as a kid, just wanted to dream of something else. I wonder how much I could’ve learned if I hadn’t woken myself up those times

Your telling people not to worry but your showing negative images and sounds that can go straight to some peoples subconscious

Thinking or yelling Jesus apparently also helps to wake yourself up too!

I’ve been having a lot of these lately. Personally lucid nightmares are more terrifying than regular nightmares. They can catch you off guard and trigger a fear response and then it all goes downhill from there. This is helpful. Thank you

I’ve been starting to lucid dream, I feel like Im almost in control of my actions, and been physically feeling things, hearing things. But since it started I’ve been having dreams about not being able to wake up, resulting in sleep paralysis and a constant loop of struggling to wake up and a dream where I believe I’ve finally woken up. And typically I can recognize I’m dreaming with out a reality check. Its very disorienting to actually wake up from, do you have any tips for something like this?

I’ve definitely had a few lucid nightmares over the past fifteen years, though I don’t remember what I did in those situations. I did have one relatively in the past three months. The lucid nightmare was so frightening that I didn’t want to go back to fully asleep, nor did I want to fully awake up. I feared whatever I was having a nightmare of would be released.
With those thoughts, my dream self took a deep breath and observed. I knew altering anything right off the bat would alert the baddie. I waited until a few of the “supporting roles” was forced into a cornered situation. I then altered the nightmare, sent them an ideal plan on how to take down the villain.
Seriously. Even my nightmares are movie/tv series worthy. Wish I could remember what the nightmare was.

If I start to feel unmotivated about lucid dreaming, can I do a mantra or write over and over again that "I want to lucid dream" or something?

A lucid night mare is worst because I can feel what happened, for example if I get stabbed I can sorta feel it.

You should make a video about things to do if your a beginner in lucid dreams. I find a lot of the time people (including me) try to do things in lucid dreams that are either to hard to do until you have more experience and/or leads directly to waking up. It’s hard to know exactly what a beginner can and can’t do so a video about that could also help with motivation

I once had 6 false awakenings back to back. And whilst it wasn't technically a nightmare. When I did finally wake up for real, at approx 3 or 4 am. I was so strung out that it took me a few moments to realise I was back to awakened reality. It really freaked me out. And it woke my girlfriend up who was also freaked out by my behaviour. I just kept on repeating to her "Is this reality? Am I awake yet?".
"Paul your scaring me, what's going on?". She replied.
I had to go to the bathroom to compose my self. It was so scary and intense, I remember It vividly to this day.
Freaky shit. And a real lesson at how powerful conciousness can be.
