Mystery of the Luminiferous Aether | Andromeda

After establishing that light travels with a finite speed, 19th-century scientists had every reason to believe that light was a wave. Like sound traveling through the air, or shock waves through the Earth's crust, light appeared to be a disturbance in a medium it was traveling through. Thought to permeate all of space, they called this medium the luminiferous aether. The question is, does it exist?

Amazing video! This was done in such a professional and commendable manner! Hats off to you, I wish this marvellous channel the best of luck! :)

If Eather exists light waves wouldn't effect one another. As light waves does not effect sound waves or visa versa. Waves of sound only effect each other if they're the same. Video on that is Interference of sound waves (U2-02-05)

Good video though thanks

The only downfall to the experiment is that one treats aether like air in which one would predict relative motion between matter and aether.
However, the aether wouldn't be anything like air. If there is a medium for light waves, then said medium must have to explain the speed of light as well as light's ability to be seen light years away, which is anything unlike what molecules are capable of doing for sound waves. Also, if light is a wave with matter as its source, then the only alternative form of energy other than pressure waves would be rotational fields (i.e. vortices). In order for those vortexes to be so small and densely packed with energy without any notable decay coming from drag, then it appears to be superfluid like. Of course, the idea of a superfluid or supersolid didn't even exist at the time the Michaelson-Morely experiment was performed.
Now, if the aether is unlike anything constructed out of particles, then giving it properties of particles is unwarranted because things like viscosity and temperature are descrbing the behavior of particles interacting with each other.
Therefore, if aether is to be presumed to exist, then one cannot make the direct comparison of sound to particles with light to aether due to differences in the properties of each medium. This does leave an open door for an aether to exist, but it's a counterintuitive substance because it cannot have the properties that are emergent from particle interference.
If accepted, then one can hypothesize that there would be no relative motion between Earth and aether if the aether is to be influenced by the presence of energy in the form of particles that causes it to exist in discrete amounts. This would create a lens around objects due to the effect particles have on aether that would move in synchronization with particles.
An analogy to this would be to measure the speed of sound in a moving car versus a moving airplane with air at the same temperature and pressure. Sound will travel at a constant rate relative to each observor making that measurement in their frame of reference so as long as the medium is moving along with them.

But this is based on the idea that the earth moves. What if the earth does not move? Would that not point that to a possibility that the Earth does not move?

Hello. They couldn’t have used a laser, do you know what they did use?

Great video! I loved it. Question this operates on the assumption that the Earth is in motion. What if it’s not?

light can't be affected by Aether in the experiment,
as It is similar when we shoot the bullet on Earth. 😁
Speed of bullet is double the speed of Earth's rotation, but no matter at which direction you shoot bullet, speed is the same regardless of the orientation of Earth's rotation towards the bullet.
*If you shoot the bullet towards the west it should fly further than the one shot towards east- but it doesn't, same applies for the light towards Aether.
Anyway, that whole experiment was a huge fail from the start, as it assumes that speed of Earth's rotation affects Aether, which is just stupid.

Michelson's result depend on he is at rest.

The original Cartesian aether is different from the Michelson-Morley ether and that is why the latter could not detect the ether drag. The real aether drag manifests as the speed of light c increasing through time and is not a rigid constant

The wrong assumption here is that the aether is stationary. The aether pushes the planets around the sun stupid. How else would the planets be moving all in the same direction according to Kepler's 3rd law of motion?

Really cool video about the aether, a plausible theoria proven false 😄

So, right at the end you cry King’s X bc Einstein comes in with an ad hoc relativity claim??!! And then you just end the video. 🤔
