They fixed fighting type by giving everything under the sun close combat.

Gen 1 Fighting types best move being is Submission is like physical electric types best move being Wild Charge, but with stone edge's accuracy ☠️

Imagine being a hitmonlee in gen 1 and you got outclassed by a drowsee💀

Close Combat and Knock Off. They made Close Combat and then gave 85% of them Knock Off.

“Mega Kommo-o, who is also a Groudon.” So accurate

I like how Reverend sums up RBY Machamp: someone who lied on his resume about beating the top 3 mons but spends all his time clicking Body Slam into Starmie. At least there's the Counter shenanigans

Wait, is this the sequel to "How GOOD were ice types actually?"? After 7 years?

Gotta love the gen 4 animations.
Lucario is naruto running towards his opponents.
Meanwhile Machamp just does a casual jog

Imagine looking at an 80 base power fighting move that does 1/4th recoil to yourself and going "no that's too powerful" then slapping an 80% accuracy on it.

Why. Gamefreak. Why.

Imo, if you just either:
1. Make Karate Chop a fighting type slash in Gen 1
2. Make Cross Chop a gen 1 move

Fighting becomes a high risk high reward type instead of being home to a bunch of bad pokemon using the “Worst good move” in RBY

Hitmonlee had High Jump Kick from the start. I think the bigger improvement was the Hitmons all getting substantial buffs to their special defense so they didn't fall over to a light breeze. Also, no mention of special Lucario is a crime

'Lucario was faster than any other fighting type up until that point at base 90'.
Primeape at base 95: Am I a joke to you?!

Gen 9 is the most unique for fighting types because fighting is actually really good defensively between resisting Rock and resisting Sucker.

Gen 9 is also unique in the fact that a lot of fighting types that do get Close Combat don't run fighting Stab alone, let alone CC. Mons like Valiant, Tusk, Kommo O, utility Quaquaval didn't even bother running Fighting moves on quite a few of their sets.

Okidogi, Conk, Iron Hands often opted for Drain Punch. Iron Val sometimes ran Focus Blast on Specs. Zama, Kommo O, Cobalion Chasnaught and Tusk have been running Body Press on their defensive sets.

It speaks to excellence of Fighting as a type that just having it is so defensively useful and the sheer variety of moves it gets.

In a nutshell, gen 3 showed the initial potential of what today’s fighting type mon’s could be, but it was gen 4 where Gamefreak decided to give them the anime treatment

Reminder that our first major introduction to Fighting types was how the Fighting Dojo got stomped by Sabrina and her trainees...

Thank goodness they became so great and respected. Machamp, Lucario, Sirfetch'd, you name it. The latter were partnered with Ash and won a big tournament.
