How UV Rays Damage Skin

preview_player
Показать описание
UV radiation is a known cause of skin cancers such as Melanoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Basal Cell Carcinoma.

UVB penetrates the epidermis and causes sunburns while also increasing the risk of skin cancer. In response to UV damage, cells called melanocytes release a pigment called melanin that provides some protection from sunlight.

UVA can also increase skin cancer risk, but is mostly involved in accelerating skin ageing. UVA damages the elasticity of the skin, making it more prone to wrinkling and sagging.

Instead of using sunscreen, the best option is to use a physical barrier (such as a sun hat and light clothes with a good UPF rating)

Since i was a child, iv'e always wondered about that. Darker surfaces absorb more heat than brighter ones. According to that, peoples skin should get brighter (over hundreds of generations) the further away from the equator they live, but the opposite seems to be the case. I finally got a satisfying answer. Thx and have fun.

Does UVA get absorbed by the epidermal cells or only dermis? In other words does it just penetrate through epidermis without it getting absorbed by the epidermis ?

Which kind of melanin? Pheomelanin or neuromelanin? You used fair skin which has pheomelanin but used an image of dark pigment which is neuromelanin?

Hello, I just want to ask a VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION. What if a person enters a sealed room where a UV Lamp used for disinfection is turned on and unaware that it's a UV lamp, she stayed in the room for a few minutes. Then when she leaves the room, she didn't feel any pain in her eyes or anything on her skin. Should we still be worried? Should we bring her to the hospital?
