My HONEST Opinion on Snape Being Black: Paapa Essiedu CONFIRMED as Severus Snape

This adds a stupid racial undertone to so many things that don't need it. Maraurders bullying a black kid, harry being suspicious of the only black teacherr etc.

I HATE the casting choice. It goes against the whole promise they made when they said that the series will be more faithful to the books. It makes no sense.

For those still holding to the hope this is a "book accurate adaptation", do keep in mind the guy writing this went on a podcast and said "i know a direct book to screen adaptation would be the safe option for success but that's not for me because i didn't read the books"

This was NEVER about making a faithful adaptation, that was clearly a lie from the start. As expected this was always gonna be a "modern audience" take on it and this casting just proves it. If you think this is the only change they're gonna make you're sorely mistaken. This tv series is already dead, its not even worth looking at anymore

I don’t care who it upsets, Snape is white. I would also have a problem with a character like Kingsley Shacklebolt being white. So much for a “book accurate” series.

It honestly worries me that snape being black makes people who start their harry potter journey with the new reboot, will now think the marauders are racist. Think about it.

im black and i can say this actually harms black people more than it would if they just created a whole new story. christ, if they made a story with a black MC going on whole new adventures id love it and would feel more represented than having a black person just replace a canonically white one and shoe horned in awkwardly. it just shows how lazy and creatively bankrupt this project will be. i expect mediocre CGI, decent acting, and nothing new or exciting.
