The table describes the changes in marital trends in Australia over a four-decade period (1960-2000).

Overall, the number of religious marriages generally fell over the given timeframe while the reverse was true in the case of civil marriages. In fact, while religious marriage was by far the most common choice, it was surpassed by civil marriage at the end. Furthermore, the average age of marriage for both males and females grew markedly, though age gap between bride and groom shrank.

Looking at the figures for types of marriages, in 1960 four times as many Australians accepted religious marriage as civil marriage (42, 000 and 8, 000). A decade later, these figures had risen by 4, 000 each. The number of marriages continued to grow, reaching 50, 000 for religious and 16, 000 for civil in 1980. However, the next ten years saw the number of religious marriages decline by 18, 000 though it was up by 2, 000 in 2000. On the contrary, the number of Australian married on a civil basis more than doubled, peaking at 40, 000 in the last year.

As for average age figures, in 1960 the normal age of marriage for women was 21, two years junior of men. For the next two decades, the average age rose consistently by 2 years for both genders, being reset to 25 for women and 27 for men. The trend persisted until the end of the period, at which point the average of a bride was set at 30 and that of groom at 31.

Some people think that people are responsible for their happiness. Others feel that happiness depends on other factors in their life. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.

The definition of happiness varies from person to person and from culture to culture, and there is a heated debate over whether individuals can make themselves happy or happiness depends heavily on other external factors. In my view, happiness is a combination of individual efforts and other influences in life, which are outside one's control.

Some argue that being happy is only up to the individual and their own endeavors. This argument totally makes sense because we can definitely choose to be happy by, for instance, deciding to take up an interesting pastime or hobby. This is especially true for those whose beloved diversion is doing shopping, since - research proves - it boosts dopamine levels in their brain, which is the pleasure hormone. Another reason for this side of the debate is linked to one's career. No one can force us to do things that we don't enjoy, and we possess full control over our choice of jobs. Artists and musicians, for example, may not earn a large amount of money as politicians or businesspeople do, but they opted for these life paths to satisfy their interests and, of course, to pursue happiness.

Nonetheless, other uncontrollable factors also play an equally essential part in increasing our level of contentment in life. One of them is our background. Being born in a country that prioritizes political stability, economic prosperity and individual well-being tends to make a person happy, when they compare their lives with those living in a war-torn and economically struggling nation. The second, albeit no less significant, factor at play is people that surround us. We are more likely to be happy when someone we appreciate and love reaches new heights, rather than when they fail.

Overall, I believe that both sides of the discussion carry equal weight. This is because, we can make ourselves happy, on the one hand, by our life decisions, such as an engrossing pastime or a fulfilling job, and, on the other, through other factors: our backgrounds and people around us.

Some people believe that the climate of a country has the greatest influence on its culture (e.g. food, arts, music, clothing). Others believe that there are more important influences.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

The climate of a country is thought to have the most effect on its culture, such as food, arts, and many more. Some people, however, do not share this view and state that more significant factors should be considered while interpreting a nation’s culture. I tend to agree with the latter school of thought.

At the outset, it is essential to explore different ways a culture is affected by climate. Evidently, the range and quality of food – one of the most defining aspects of any culture – is primarily determined by local climate. Take tropical and northern climates as examples. The former is ideal for growing citrus fruits and vegetable while the latter hardly allows farmer to grow plants, making them dependent on animal products such as livestock for subsistence. The same principle applies to cultural activity preferences of a particular country. People in the north generally give their preference to indoor pastimes like theater performances as opposed to outdoor festivals and carnivals in the warmer regions of the globe. Clearly, climate is a crucial factor in shaping culture.

On the other hand, I would contend that culture of a country develops in much more nuanced ways. Religion has arguably the most profound impact on any culture. This is because many cultural traditions and customs are rooted in religious principles and beliefs that have dictated people’s way of life for centuries. True, not all modern cultures have directly been affected by religion, but their origins can be traced back to the framework of ancient belief systems that were for the most part religion-driven. One other equally strong determinant of culture is technology. Despite being a relatively new phenomenon, technology has radically restructured our lifestyles, traditions, and values, which invariably constitute our culture.

In conclusion, though I admit climate has some bearing in the evolution of culture, factors such as religion and technology appear to have more substantial impact on it.

No, they are hypocrite 😢
Many English speaker don't even try to learn the country's language when they are going to live in it

They assumed that they speak English even if it's not the country first language

But when we try to go, we should face all of this hassle and for what in return to be treated as second rated citizen and somebody I don't know tell me to go back to my country

What a sad misery we live 😮‍💨🤕😭😭

literally none of those examples of places where people won't repeat themselves are true. at a job or college you can ask people to repeat themself or often you can ask your coworker or fellow student what was just said, maybe you can't ask a prof to repeat themself in certain massive lectures but the idea that nobody would be willing to help you in an interpersonal situation is ridiculous because almost always someone will. airports and other transit will repeat the schedule or stops multiple times (maybe not five) but they also have it written and I bet you'd be around at least one person who'd be willing to help too. this is such bad advice in that regard, although I think there are other reasons as to why trying to hear something and understand it on your first try can be useful to learning.
