The flat-on-your-back-is-best myth was largely propagated by manufacturers attempting to sell mattresses under the guise of back care when really, sleeping in this position might not be ideal for you.

Some of the negative effects of lying flat:
- Snoring and sleep apnea. Your throat tends to collapse in on itself – resulting in wheezing, snoring, and in extreme cases, obstructive sleep apnea, which can be dangerous and even life-threatening.

- Acid reflux. You're more prone to acid reflux in this position, as it’s easier for the acid from your stomach to travel up your esophagus when you're lying flat.

- Poor breathing. It negatively affects your breathing, which in turn affects your nervous system and heart rate.

The best possible sleeping position? On your side. Add a pillow in between your legs to make it more comfortable.

At the end of the day (or night), your goal is to align your spine, optimise breathing and find a position you can maintain for the whole night.

Sleeping is cause of back pain. The minimum you use bed, the better your back are. Walk, run, swim, crouch... But if you sleep too long, your back will start to hurt. Active life is key to not have back pain.

Yeah but when I bought a New Mattress it helped me Sleep & Relieved my Back aches🤷🏽‍♂️

But a bad mattress can hurt your back. I never try to fall asleep laying on my back because I won't fall asleep that way. I do exercises for my back and do daily walks, but no longer than 30 to 45 minutes or my back starts to hurt.

I sleep on a Japanese futon…about inch thick on a slatted wooden frame…I have bad scoliosis…I sleep on my back and on my left side…best sleepever

My memory foam mattress helps a lot. And I sleep on my back like Dracula. It’s great for Yoga Nidra.

Breathing problems and other misfortune problems makes me sleep sitting up against a few pillows. I hate it. With back broke left problem was told to lay flat I can't because breathing. Have a pillow under legs most of the time. Used to sleep on my side have to put extra support for neck and shoulders.. use to sleep on my back. Listening to the video wish I could. Hate bedtime.

3 layers of memory foam reversed the decline of my spine. Before that, my tendency to sleep on my side was wrecking my lumbar discs.

You definitely should test different sleep positions and using pillows between your legs and under your midsection if you sleep on your side. And use them under your knees when back sleeping. I’m still figuring out the best methods but I switch between them.

A luxury firm mattress from Stearns and foster is a game changer after using an incredibly hard and soft mattresses. You want your hips to sink in just a bit but the rest to remain pretty much straight, resulting in a slight back arch, too much arch isn’t good from my experience. Get A mattress topper, or some sort of cushioning and sleep on the floor if you can’t afford a good mattress or find one that I have a discount, I will give you the firm support that you need, but also let your hips sink in just a bit, if you sleep on your side, you’ll need a lot more cushioning if you’re a guy because of your shoulders. Also get some Brooks beast shoes. All Brooks are good but the beast and addiction have the widest toebox, Go with the 4e if you’re a bigger guy

I suffered a lower back muscular injury for 3 years and i will saw that when the pain was 9/10 bad, lying on solid hard surfaces helped with the legs bend at 45 degrees with a support piece under the legs. However mattresses can significantly help long term with healing muscle pains contributing to back pain. So technically this video is also marketing. Just make sure you get a solid mattress because we do need them for comfort. Cant be lying on the floor forever…
