How to Make a Sheath for a Dagger

We are making a sheath to hold Kyle's 194 knife he made, which is a dagger. If you are into leather making, sheath, knives, swords, daggers, and if you own a hammer, this is the video for you!

I am a full-time Mastersmith knifemaker, and I love my job! I specialize in forged fixed blade knives and also make many other types of beautiful knives.

In March of 2007, I went to the W.F. Moran School of Bladesmithing in Old Washington, Arkansas where I took a two week class on Intro to Bladesmithing under ABS Mastersmiths Bert Gaston and Greg Neely. This is where I learned how to make a blade that would pass the ABS Journeyman Smith Performance Test, after that I took a class on Handles and Guards under ABS Mastersmith Jim Walker where I learned how to make handles out of stag, exotic woods and many other materials.

In June, 2011 I received my Mastersmith Stamp at the Atlanta BLADE Show. Now that I have been granted my MS certification I have a desire to expand my field and continue learning and teaching what I learn, God has given me all the opportunities and teachers that I’ve had and I thank Him for giving me the ability to do something I love.

Follow me on this journey!

Thanks for watching
Enjoy!

What do you struggle with most when making a sheath?

Excellent, excellent approach to teaching. Makes me at least that any of this is doable. Maybe not as cleanly or quickly but doable. TY

My eyes lit up when I read the title. The good tutorials for sheath making are few and far between, great video Royer Family!

I don’t do many sheaths but do a lot of smaller items. I love how it turned out and going to try your quilting pattern on one of my projects at some time.

I really like the shark skin, and the quilting detail looks quite good.

My husband used these plans from Woodglut and he is very pleased.

Lovely work... I struggled with stitching for some time.. eventually I seen a chuck dorsett video and omg .. ... I use 6 inch needles for more grip to avoid needing pliers on tight holes

Anybody comments on not using pricking irons ... it's tough to stay straight on thick leather... I prick enough to see dents and drillpress sheaths aswell ...

I love tooled quilted patterns on leather, but that one is in another level, I've never seen it done quite like it. It reminds me of something like a puffy quilted silk pillow made to display or present a golden jewel-encrusted crown upon that was made for a king lol. Very nicely done!

I've never done leatherworking, but this video made me real curious about maybe doing it one day! Especially since I have a weird bulky-shaped dagger that I need a sheath for. Could definitely be a fun project for in the future!

The masked up dagger looks like you grabed it out of a zelda video game.

If so many processes weren't sped up, I might learn something. Do you thing your viewer's attention spans are that short.

Do you think you could do a dagger or sword with a black blade. For example blueing the entire blade
