Karen Thomas- Back From The Light- A Verified Near Death Experience

Karen was a physical therapist at Alaska Hospital and Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska in 1982 when she was the 32-year-old mother of a daughter, 9 years old, and a son, 6 years old. She and her husband had moved their family there from a small upstate New York town the previous year. Karen injured her back and had to have spinal surgery. Her near-death experience occurred during this surgery when the surgeon lacerated a major artery and she bled out on the operating room table.

Karen's extensive near-death experience involved what is called a veridical experience, which means that a third party was later able to verify what she saw take place while she was out of her body. Karen has been interviewed about her experience on several occasions and is one of several near-death experiencers who participated in the documentary, Back from the Light. Her previous interviews can be heard on YouTube. Most recently, her experience is one of 12 to be included in the Journal, Narrative Inquiry in Bioethics, A Journal of Qualitative Research affiliated with Johns Hopkins published in May 2020

I am not an experiencer. After doing just a little bit of reading "After" "Dying to be ME" and watching numerous videos, almost nightly, I feel like I've had an awakening matching beliefs I have had for years (74 years) with a good deal of the research and listening to experiencer after experiencer!! Karen is such a genuine person!! It seems that certain experiencers are able to add a new piece to my puzzle as the discussion rings a bell. I'm glad you are interviewing people, I enjoy these episodes...I have been listening to people's experiences since 2012 and you have some really great interviews.

I did not have one myself, but, when my mom passed, she was able to connect with me while I was sleeping...it was a profound experience, I was "somewhere", like a place that was just to meet with her & was as "real" as this reality was...she never said a word to me, but she was in a robe, looked about 30 yrs younger than when she passed, and my dog that had passed 3 yrs before was with her...she always told me that I loved that dog more than anything else, and he too was young, about 4 yrs old looking, he passed on he was 16, & he was joyous, I don't know how to explain it but I "knew" he was. Oddly enough, a phone call in this "reality" woke me up from this experience, and it was the hospital telling me my mother had just passed away...I was in awe, no longer listening to the person on the other end, just knowing that I had been with her! I knew at once what I thought was really going on here and what IS are totally different things, I knew we are all connected and I have never been the same since. I will also add that my heart seemed on fire for about a month after that, with GRATITUDE, sometimes so overwhelming I couldn't take it...I didn't understand any of this or what was happening to me at the time, and in telling my aunt (her sister) I just got a silence on the other end of the phone...but I know that love is the only thing that matters & it changed what I thought about life & people & my reactions to it.
