How I Reduced EEVEE Render Times By 85%

Blender's EEVEE render engine delivers incredibly fast performance compared to Cycles, but it's still far from instant. In this video, I'll show you how I reduced the render time of an EEVEE animation by 85% compared to typical EEVEE settings. If you've always wanted to know how to speed up EEVEE, this is the video for you.

N.B This is a beginner-level guide showing you how to tweak EEVEE to get the best render times with the smallest impact on overall quality. If you already know your way around EEVEE or image quality is a huge dealbreaker, then this tutorial might not be for you.

My Gear -
(Camera) Canon M50
(Processor) Ryzen 2700x processor
(RAM) Gammix 3000 MHz (I have two of these)
(Motherboard) Asrock B450 pro4 Motherboard
(Mic) Tonor condenser mic
(Storage) 1TB NVME SSD

According to scientists, subscribing to DECODED gives you a bigger penis. That doesn't sound right to me, but who am I to argue with science?

Oh man. You really came in clutch here. I was rendering animations fine before but I guess I changed some settings without realizing it and it was taking me like 2 hours to render only 200 frames so I was desperate for ways to reduce the time I had to wait. I for some reason had my render sampling set to 500 so I reduced it to 8 since I don't really use textures. This REAAALLLLY helped.

I am just blown away!!!! this is something that helped me alot, so this is the first time that i started using blender for animation and after completing my animation i started rendring it, and the rendring time before was almost 5 hours and now it reduced to 9:44 mins
thanks alot man.

Nice tips. I didn't know about the extra reflections options, and I'm just now using screen space reflections in an anim, so I'll give it a go! :] Can I also mention that the Simplify also has extra options - by default still only limits the sub divs to 6, which I think is actually ridiculous. Who ever uses more than 6 anyway!? So, as well as checking Simplify, you should also be sure to go in and set the max subs to 1, or 0 if you really need to see decent frame rate in the viewport playback. Cheers :]

Youre a life saver. Eevee was going about 4 mins a frame for me. I got it down to 45 seconds or so. Thanks mate.

Got the same quality(at least for my eyes) and reduced render times from 1min 20sec to 0min 25sec. Great video. Edit: Down to 18sec only with the 75% Resolution tip.

You can also open 2 instances of Blender and render with two instances. This will speed up the rendering by round about 70%. ;-)
I use 2 GPU 980Ti and fire up 4 instances. Now I render about 9 Frames per minute instead of 2 frames per minute on 1 instance and on one GPU.
Instance 1: Startframe 1, Step4
Instance 2: Startframe 2, Step4
Instance 3: Startframe 3, Step4
Instance 4: Startframe 4, Step4

You could shorten the total render time by 50% by making the animation 12fps and then use advanced retiming tools in video editing software such as Resolve to bring it back to 24fps. That should work very well with scenes like this that have no fast movement.

This is perfect. I was just looking into starting to animate things in blender. Just basic things like objects moving around, but the render times always put me off. Thank you.

Reduced render time by 75% with just turning down Samples and turning of Half Res Trace! Thanks for the great tips!!!

One more method is to use viewport rendering
But we should adjust viewport samples, subsurf and other setting equal to rendering, best thing is that there is no difference in terms of quality in viewport render and normal render but however it works excellently perfect, just give it a try, i dont know why viewport rendering is so quick without losing quality but however its almost 300% faster in higher resolution
