Cabbage roll casserole
1 pound ground beef
1 pound Italian sausag
28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
2 8 oz. cans tomato sauce
2 t. Salt
1/2 t. Pepper
1 t. onion powder
1 t. garlic powder
1 t. minced garlic
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 /2 t. dill
1/2 t. thyme
1 T. parsley flakes
1 t. Italian seasoning
1/2 t. fennel
1 t. sweet Paprika
1 to 2 bay leafs
2 bell peppers chopped
1 onion chopped
1/2 cup beef broth
1 to 1 1/2 cups cooked rice
2 small to medium. heads cabbage
1 cup parmesan cheese
2 cups shredded cheese

Yummm, I've been wanting cabbage rolls, but they are a lot of work. Im making this tomorrow. I love that you are not shy about spices! How people skip them is beyond me! And garlic!!!! Hello Lori, I belong to a group of women who cook and provide meals for the folks in my area who are hungry. I tried this recipe last week for my husband and I and its so good. Tomorrow I am going to serve it to the ladies and then we will pack up the left overs, freeze and give to the Family Center to distribute to those in need. Thank you for sharing this recipe . My kids god mother Darlene used to make me and them stuffed cabbage rolls. She has sense passed on, but I will never forget how good her stuffed cabbage rolls were. I have never heard or even thought about making this dish into a casserole dish but I will do it now. That looks Devine. Thank you so much Miss Lori for this recipe. I'm looking for ideas to make freezer meals for my elderly parents. When I was watching you assemble the casserole, I wondered if I could split it into 2, 8X8 pans, freeze and give them 2 nights worth of meals. Well, you answered that question as soon as I thought it!! LOL!!!

I am Polish and we call this golabki (pronounced gowumpke). We also make it with a mushroom sauce which is equally delicious. My mom made this often when I was a child I love it still!

My Momma use to make this....I loved to sit in the kitchen while she put it together ❤. I'm so glad to see you rinse out the tomato can with water. So many cooks these days waste so much by not gettin as much as they can out when they transfer ingredients. I sure love to watch yuns put good cookin together ⚘

Our Family Traditional Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (German Style) are made w/Bacon (raw), Onion (raw), Fresh Tomato crushed up by hand, Tomato Juice, Rice (raw) & Cabbage (Cooked & Leaves Individually Separated - the hard Core sliced off of each leaf & put in bottom of baking dish to support each roll & prevent sticking) - S & P to taste (when almost finished cooking, a few splashes of Apple Cider Vinegar are added). Very tedious to make ☺️. Your Recipe is on my list!! I can't wait to make it!!! TYFS!!!! 👍👍👍.

Oh my gosh!! I always parboil my cabbage, peel the individual leaves off, put my filling in and wrap them up like a burrito!! Then I pour tomato sauce over it and bake in the oven. I have never seen it done this way. Holy cow, how easy 💕🙏🙏

Made this for dinner tonight and got raves on it! I made it without rice since we all are on Keto. It was delicious and we have leftovers for later! I had to watch it twice to make sure I was getting all the steps done correctly. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Good to know that you don't have to make up the rolls-great time saver! When I want lasagna I use shell macaroni instead of lasagna noodles. I hate making those layers, so I cook the macaroni in a Dutch oven, put it in another dish, and then make the sauce in the same pan. Goes much quicker with fewer dishes-a win/win!!

My elderly friend had told me about cabbage roll casserole when I said I loved them but hated all the work. Now I see how it's done. Thank you. I have a cabbage roll recipe that Prego had put out years ago using their sauce with additives. I know brown sugar was added.

Oh this looks good! I make what I call cabbage roll soup with the ground beef, chopped cabbage, onion, garlic, and diced tomatoes in beef broth with whatever seasonings strike my fancy that day. Usually onion powder, celery salt, smoked paprika lawrys black pepper season salt. So good. Add a splash of apple cider or red wine vinegar for a little zing. 😋

Hey Ms. Lori, thanks for the idea. I was actually able to down scale this recipe to about 4 servings (7 in.x7 in. pan) I used a 15oz can of crushed tomatoes, 8oz. tomato sauce, and a 1 1/2 cup of chicken broth. We also tried it with country sausage (was on special). I used onion powder, garlic powder, pinch of cumin, and 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper instead of paprika. Also scaled back brown sugar to 1 oz. and used one cup of instant rice which I cooked in the sauce. It worked great 🙂
