Watch again: Foreign Minister David Lammy gives speech at the Labour Party conference

During a speech in Liverpool, David Lammy confirmed that the UK will "take action against Russian misinformation" alongside the United States, Canada and the rest of the G7.

Mr Lammy also reiterated UK support for Ukraine, after he made a joint visit to the country with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken this month.

Turning to the conflict in the Middle East, the foreign secretary said he "believes in the right of Israel to be safe and secure".

Lammy never lets the facts get in the way of a facile demonisation. In 2012 Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor acknowledged that Ahmadinejad never said Israel ‘Must Be Wiped Off the Map suggesting the Persian language was partly to blame for the confusion (“In a reminder that Persian rhetoric is not always easy for English-speakers to interpret…”), it indicated a clean break from earlier media insistence that the threatening remarks posed an existential threat to Israel. Ahmadinejad was not making a military threat. It was not said about Israel, but about the Israeli regime at the time. He was calling for an end to the occupation of Jerusalem by the regime - at some point in the future. The “page of time” phrase suggested he did not expect it to happen soon. The only country which has been wiped off from the map in modern times is 5, 000 year-old Palestine.
