Interviewer - What are your hobbies?

Ever had an interviewer ask, “What are your hobbies?”

And you’re left wondering if you should be completely honest or just say something that sounds ‘professional’? 🤔

Here’s the deal:

This question is about you as a person.

Interviewers want to know what you do outside of work and how it might align with the company culture.

Here’s what you should NOT to say:

❌ “I watch Netflix shows,” “I scroll through social media,” or “I like to sleep.”
❌ I love cooking in my free time
❌ I love to party

Instead, you should-

✅ Talk about hobbies that show your positive traits like teamwork, creativity, or self-improvement.

Here’s what you SHOULD say:

✅ “I enjoy hiking and exploring nature trails. It helps me recharge and keeps me grounded, which has been a great way to balance the demands of work-life.”

(Shows work-life balance and appreciation for nature)

✅ “I love reading non-fiction books on technology and innovation. It keeps me up-to-date with the latest trends, and I find myself incorporating new ideas into my work.”
(Reflects curiosity and continuous learning, relevant to most industries)

✅ “I volunteer at a local animal shelter. It’s taught me patience and empathy, qualities that I believe are important in the workplace.”
(Demonstrates compassion and commitment to community work)
