I became a practicing Muslim when i thought about the exact same thing. There isn't any other purpose to human life than to please the All Mighty creator. Wallahi i couldn't think of any purpose so i turned back to Allah. How can we dedicate our lives to something thats not gonna last long. Be it wealth, knowledge, fame, familty or power, its gonna go away with death so why work so hard to achieve such perishable goals. Even billionaires cannot avoid death so money is useless in that sense also.
