Using SketchUp Make with a Glowforge (or other) laser cutter

For a while now I've wondered what might be the best way to take a 3D model and create an outline of it to use as a cutting path for a laser cutter. Also, is it possible to do it with free software? Yes!!

This video shows the methods you can use to find or create designs in SketchUp Make 2017, prepare and convert those designs into an SVG file that can be used by a laser cutter as a cutting path.
