The narrative seems to conflate descriptive theory with ideology. While every theorist had some ideology, criticizing a theory on the grounds of any programmatic consequence it is presumed to have is confused. Theories should be judged on their ability to elucidate and predict reality, not on whether or not they lend support to the critic’s preferred policies.
