Hey everybody! We've been getting a lot of questions about why we didn't plow the snow out before pulling the truck out. I just wanted to come on here and explain a little bit. I promise you that we plowed the snow out from behind the truck but it was so windy and the snow was so powdery that it just blew back in as fast as we could clear it out. Dad actually had all the snow cleared out up to right behind the truck but it just blew right back in immediately. We were just trying to get it done as fast as we could and do our best to deal with a bad situation. I hope this helps and Thank-you for all of your support!

Glad you are coming through this arctic blast with all warm inside.
God bless you all especially Adam for going out in that brutal cold to help a neighbor.

On the farm, North of Fort Dodge, I saw -75 in January of 1974. Phone Poles were exploding. We strung a rope from the house to the garage and from the garage to the barn and Chicken House. Dad slept in the barn and I slept in the Chicken House keeping fires going for the animals. I never want to do that again. We had a coal/wood furnace in the basement and we burned anything that we could. We never bought wood so we gathered and split everything ourselves. Heat didn’t go upstairs. We had registers but they only let up what heat rose up there. I recall ice and frost on the wall up there. There were many times, we would close off the upstairs and sleep in the living room.

We were getting the same thing over here in Marion just east of you. I recall a minus 12 day at Iowa U and a morning class in a metal hut on Clinton Street, listening to a boring lecture on Dante's Inferno (some irony), We had a chorus of teeth chattering and almost no heat in that old metal building. Back then, they never gave the wind chill numbers, but wow, it was brutal. I have despised literature ever since. Tell Adam to watch that skin...frostbite in as little as 6 minutes can happen with the kind of numbers we are seeing locally. Great job helping that neighbor!

We got snowed into Fort Dodge one time. When we did make it home 2-days later, we found three men living in the house. They had been out Pheasant Hunting and got caught in the storm. We were happy they did because they kept the fire going and the pipes didn’t freeze.

Ive heard of folks tying a rope from the house to the barn so they could find their way back in a blizzard. Old time ingenuity in case of a whiteout. Where I am, the last frost date is today, May 8. Yay, spring is right around the corner.

Hello from a very wet Cumbria (Northern England), I hope that the weather improves soon at your side of the Atlantic as snow makes all work far harder especially at Christmas . The people who like snow the most never have to work in it and the best place for snow is on Christmas cards.
Thanks for all the great videos you make and I would like to wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year.

Awesome vid Abbi. Wow that sounds like a serious storm. That is Alaska Eskimo weather. Glad to see you and all the animals came through this storm in good shape. I think the sheep are the warmest with their homemade coat lol. Happy that the family and animals are all safe. Oh, Abbi you make a fantastic supervisor. Job well done. Love the Christmas tree and Merry Christmas to the whole Todd family.
