I don't understand the people in states that will not acknowledge or participate in addressing the effects of climate change until it directly effects their state and they need financial assistance to recover but reject any attempts to prepare or minimize the effects

Let's add a fourth branch to our government called: THE PEOPLES BRANCH, and let's have this fourth branch allow people a full vote on all pending legislation. That way the politicians will have to pay attention to what we really want.

The Ugly American, a novel from 1958 and movie from 1963 somewhat superficially portrayed America's hysterical anti-communism and defacto colonialism that fuelled the cold-war after WWII and formed the basis of the US war against Vietnam's struggle for independence & reunification, resulting in over 2 million deaths. But the title stuck around the world; three words that capture the racism, elitism, and "capitalism as religion" image & reality of the US. Ro Khanna now embodies those words again in 2022. He displays the core American political philosophy that "might is right", that the glorification of war and the military is not just good for business and for rallying American nationalism (a la TOP GUN). More importantly, it's the way the US has chosen to dominate and police the world, and profit from it, since at least 1898. History, today's news, & the new cold-war against China, are full of many Ugly Americans.

The consequences of global warming will lead to loss of land mass globally, severe droughts and storms and mass migration from within our US boarders and from outside our boarders.
For most of us were bound to the land we live on. Profit of oil oligarchs are not. They can move at will anywhere globally.
