The timing of this video is perfect. I've JUST decided to take a solo trip to Thailand for my birthday this year - and like you, I plan to only take hand/carry on luggage. Superb video darling. Thank you!

If I am going away for no longer than two days I do carry my bag on, but when I am away longer, I check in my bag. My definition of light travel is above the 7kg allowance for cabin bags. I take enough clothes for one week if I am on a multi-week trip. (I would make an exception if I was going to somewhere like Thailand which has reasonably priced tailoring. But then I would have lots to bring home! LOL!)
Another tip for longer trips: I try to make contact with a local drycleaner. I cheerfully pay the money rather than waste holiday time on washing.
It costs more money my way, but it works for me.
I am so glad you enjoyed your holiday!

I just got back from Copenhagen yesterday. I love packing videos! It doesn't matter how long I'm away, I pack carry on size. I'm focused more on my experiences. A small bag is easier to maneuver. Also, when there are flight problems, I've been able to be easily rebooked because I didn't have a checked bag. Those are situations where a bag could have been lost or at least, would not have gotten to the destination with me.
One thing I do is what ever I wear on the plane, going, can be thrown away. I just style them nicely. This allows room for purchases. I usually do laundry, but this time I brought enough undies and socks for an extra day. Silk thermals are very thin and warm. Instead of a sweater, I brought 3 different weights. 4 tshirs, 1 nicer shirt (I didn't wear it), and 3 jeans. Only the pair of shoes I wore. Hoodie and jacket I wore on the plane. I was going to a beer festival, so the girliness, I expressed with makeup and perfume. Byredo Sunday Cologne and Mohave Ghost, travel sizes.
Return, I did check because I have purchased and gifted alcoholic beverages. I when I arrived, I bought most of my toiletries and hair products in duty free. Since I was checking coming home, I allowed this rare luxury.

good tip about the dual use/double duty pochette strap. I take it one step further - I use the black adjustable strap of my satchel purse  as a black belt. I try to use a satchel purse  as my 'suitcase' for my minimalist travel or smallest wheeled backpack. Over the years, I bought satchel purses in multiple colors all with adjustable straps. So I can carry red satchel with strap and use red belt on trip, if I feel like red. Or carry black if I feel like black, or brown if I feel like brown. I found a brown textured faux crocodile satchel on ebay with matching adjustable strap! Keep in mind that all these satchels are way smaller than a suitcase, but I'm trying for minimalist packing light using a smaller bag and only clothing items that do double duty. Also, I pack clothes in ultra-lightweight compression packing cubes to get even more space in my small bags...I'm a wimpy girl and don't want to lug heavy bags when I travel (even though my hubby will tote them for me if I ask). I like the idea of  me carrying my own lightweight travel bag! My #1 tip is from a seasoned world traveler I saw on a video of a newscast. Her mantra is 'Every ounce counts'.

I love traveling and my love of bags extends into luggage, so I love watching suitcase reviews and packing videos. One confession is that I've always checked a bag while flying and never done carry on only, but I definitely want to try soon!

Great video Eva!!! I'm a massive over packer!! Back in the pre-kids days my hubby and I would go on weekend breaks with no check in luggage but now those days are over. I start at least 4 days before we go on a big holiday as otherwise I get in a panic about forgetting something. However I'm getting better, last summer I limited everyone to 5 tops, bottoms, swimshort etc each (apart from me of course!) and this video has encouraged me to do better this summer. The last time we went away in half term at the last minute we decided to go a day early and I packed in 3 hrs - but still took too much stuff. Must try harder! 😄 Michelle xxx

Eva - you are a legend! I couldn't take hand luggage for a weekend away let alone two weeks. I'm a nightmare!
PS - I've never wanted to reply to a troll before but someone has made a disgusting and ridiculous comment. All I have to say is:  🔔🔚 - The Brits amongst us will get this.
Love you Eva xx

I'm loving your short hair! I've never been to Thailand, but when I went to Japan my short hair helped a lot with the humidity and heat!

Great video and I LOVE the Zara sandals. Teal, sparkle, what's not to love? And, they look very comfortable for dressy sandals.

I usually take a 20kg hold suitcase, a 10kg roll suitcase and a neverfull. There is always a lot of shopping involved and I use large toiletries which I have to put in the hold. Clearly still some way to go...great tips!

I don't know how you survived on 4 t-shirts in Thailand for 2 weeks. I packed probably 10 and still ran out because it was so hot that by the end of the day, I was drenched in sweat and couldn't wear items again. I ended up hand washing items in the bathtub because I was wearing 2 items per day. I made the same mistake in India where it was so hot. I don't want to spend my whole time washing items on vacation. Leaving for Greece next week for 2 weeks most of which is beach/islands. I will be bringing at least 14 t-shirts, shorts etc, because I know it will be blazing hot and sweaty.
I think your method would work for big cities like Paris, London, NYC because you can wear tops, jeans, pants, dresses multiple times but not when you are doing hot climate destinations where you will be sweating all day. Just my 2 cents! :)
Happy Travels!

If you buy makeup, skincare and perfume in your travels, how do you pack it safely back to home? Do you check it in or put it in your carryon? Which is safe but will also get you through customs?
