How Much Money do CFP Professionals Make?

Certified Financial Planners or CFPs can earn a wide range of salaries. We look at 3 surveys the try to find just how much the average CFP processional earns in total compensation. Their compensation will depend on their years of experience, job performance, and a few other factors. Partnered CFP at some wealth management firms can earn over $1million dollars per year.

As a CFP and someone who’s helped and hired others on this path, the ones who can think through, simplify, and articulate complex ideas make 2-5x those that don’t. First year in the business and made 75k as a financial advisor... don’t take a salaried position in this career if you want financial freedom/no cap. Bet on yourself if you do not want a ceiling.

Not sure if this is just me, but I definitely expected starting advisors to make $80K/yr. I make $60K/yr. now in client relations for an insurance company and I started last year at $40K/yr.

Guys- I know cfp’s making millions of dollars a year in business for themselves. Salary model=average lifestyle which is OK if that’s okay with you.

I don't know a single CFP advisor who has been in business for more than 10 years who doesn't make well north of $250k/year and the majority I know who have been working over 20 years make near $1 million +

Just a periodic reminder that you'd do really well hosting a podcast. The content in your videos is REALLY useful and informative (and you also speak casually). But the production-quality doesn't match other people like Real Vision or whatever (that's an unfair comparison of course).
Regardless....Having a podcast would shift the focus to the content and not the production/editing quality.

These numbers seem way off to me. I don’t know anyone that’s been in the industry for 20yrs that’s making less than 300k on the low end of the spectrum and I don’t know many ppl that have been in the industry for 5 yrs making less than 100k. IMO if you’re making less than that after that amount of time you are grossly underpaid. It seems like these numbers you’re citing are referencing the starting salaries ppl are getting for training contracts in their first 5 yrs.

Curious what your thoughts are on getting a CIMA for a financial planner who already has their CFP versus a full on CFA. It seems you think the CFA is overkill for a financial advisor… but is the CIMA something that’s worth the 3 months of study?
