She rly helps me feel alive, I have been having depression moments and suicidal moments bc i feel like everyone hates me and I'm not good enough and that I'm ugly. But whenever someone tells me I'm not I just have a hard time believing them. So ty for that 💕

I started doing this last year and now it’s like: Negative thought for a minute, and then move on onto a different more relevant topic after. I also started to think less overall. Does wonders for me :3 That way I started to stay more in the present and take care of everything happening around me.

Right! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 it’s the response to the negative thoughts that counts. They’ve been painful but have led me to self-discovery and I’m working on issues I’ve suppressed with fake positivity🙏🏾💜🤗✌🏾

Agree. Just so people don’t eat mixed up though, don’t discard ALL negative thoughts, some are improvement thoughts which could seem like negative thoughts at first but really self improvement ones. Like she said, see if you need to invest time in those thoughts.

This makes so much sense. Easy to say don't have negative thoughts. And I think as Dr Julie says just decide how little time one should spend on those negative thoughts.

Yes! I’ve ALWAYS said that ignoring negative thoughts is a detriment because they will always creep up.

I really needed to hear this, it’s proven to me that not all negative thoughts are bad. While yes, they can get bad, with the right actions they can help. I like to use these negative thoughts to motivate me, when I tell myself I’ve failed I use that to push myself to over come that failure. When I tell myself I’m not doing good enough I look for what I can do to improve. But when I tell people around me this, they say that it’s only going to backfire on me. Maybe it will, but that’s okay, so long as i don’t let it hit me too hard.

Whenever I have a negative thought I try to tell myself that Im not going to listen to it and that I'm not going to give any of my energy to the negative thoughts I feel like that helps sometimes

My teacher is always like “Be optimistic all the time” IM LIKE MAAM. MAAM. NO I CANT JUST BE LIKE, IM HAPPY. OR JUST MAKE THE MOST OUT OF EVERYTHING. I can’t control my feelings. I can’t make myself mad, or sad, or happy.

Honestly Bo Burnham's song Lower Your Expectations has always been my go to response. I also just think of the other people who may hurt me and get angry and try to make me upset, I think of them as people experiencing the same kind of life I am but they have different circumstances and maybe their circumstances are much harder for them than mine are now. That may be why they act out, why their behavior is so bad and why they aren't happy and why they feel the need to push out and/or push on their negativity to others like myself. I don't very much care for that negativity but if someone wants to actually talk to me about their problems and why they feel they need to push out their feelings onto others. I am down to listen and I don't judge anyone for their decisions, actions, and behaviors. I know life is tough and horrible but you can't keep seeing it as such forever because life also has beautiful things and choosing to see those beautiful things is what life is meant to be. The mindset I have now is from years of working through that horrible destructive mindset that really makes me sad to remember and see the aftermath of my home, family, and my own body. I wish I didn't have that but that is exactly what my life needed for me to experience because I needed such hardships to figure out myself and others. We each live in our own little worlds, we each have our likes, dislikes, and interests. The only thing is that our worlds eventually include many others' as we live and grow and we need other people to grow our own world. So being without people is hard to have the full experience. Trust this shy introvert because I have pushed myself so much to be who I am today. I hope everyone who reads this is able to seewhat I mean in their own lives.

Hi Dr. Julie, I have OCD and learning not to dwell on my intrusive thoughts was hard, but it gets better every day. I really appreciate you saying that you can't control the thoughts that pop into one's head. Thank you!

Its important to emphasize that completely neglecting these thoughts is just as bad as ruminating on them.

This is true when I personally say positive thoughts only I mean those are the only thoughts I entertain because I entertain positive thoughts the majority of the time I experience positive things even while under pressure my negative thoughts rarely occur and fade quickly
