I think the kid who started and maintains Ubuntu Cinnamon is only 13 or 14 years old so a high level of respect from my side. However, Mint is much more than just the Cinnamon desktop. In fact, I far prefer the XFCE flavour. It's all the little tools and tweaks which Mint ships with, that makes it what it is.

Linux Mint Debian edition is my preference, as in my experience, its been more stable and reliable. That said, its interesting to see a big player like Ubuntu adopt the Cinnamon desktop. Will it kill Mint? No. People use Mint in all its forms, for reasons that go beyond a desktop manager. Its generally reliable, stable and its dev's listen to the end user base and make changes or preserve features, people have said they want.

I've tried hundreds of distros, and I always go back to Mint.

As a Linux Mint user, I find it interesting that an article and now this video have the same title. Whenever has a new spin, distro, or desktop been created in the Linux community when it is stated that it will "kill" something that is pre-established?

I guess Ubuntu is feeling very insecure because our community is rejecting snaps that they want to force on us. I left Windows 8.1 because it was obtuse and slow with few choices. Why would I pick something that will slow up my computer that I have privacy issues about? Even without snaps, Ubuntu loads very slowly on my computer. Why leave what simply works and respects my privacy, choices and opinions? To my mind, those features are the very appeal of running Linux.

Ubuntu Cinnamon looks more modern thanks to default dark theme and great icons, Mint still looks quite old by default, and recently they added those ugly wIndows-like yellow folder icons.
PS. If you prefer flatpaks over snaps it's super easy to install them on any Ubuntu flavour, it's not a big deal, you even recieve extra software-center-app for flatpaks.

The Ubuntu icon theme looks terrible in cinnamon in my opinion. I could imagine using it as my main distro for the normal day, but I do not see a big advantage in switching to a new relatively familiar distro, when there are already established ones available

If you like snaps then yes Unbuntu Cinnamon is for you but Linux Mint killer never IMHO.

Last werk I installed this new flavour over Linux Mint 21.1 on my laptop, and so far I'm liking it a lot and don't plan on going back to either vanilla Ubuntu or LM. Having a traditional UI that is actually made with desktop in thought and also being to run the current version of Ubuntu is great. Also, the default Yaru theme looks sleekier than LM one.

Ubuntu Cinnamon looks good. I use *buntu family over 12 years. But today is better alternative fedora or debian/mx linux.

Merci pour la vidéo. Une question stp. Est-ce que ubuntu cinnamon est il plus stable et rapide que mint cinnamon dans le temps, du fait d'avoir une couche de moins ( ubuntu _mint) ? Merci

You mean Ubuntu SNAP Cinnamon! I'll stick with LMDE - no Snaps and no Ubuntu.

Why would anyone install this repository when you can just use custom themes for Linux Mint Cinnamon? I don't get it...
🤔🤨

Why use a knock-off when you can use the original? I don't think Mint is in any danger. The limitations of Snaps make a great deal of difference. Since freeing myself from Microsoft Store I'm not comfortable to kowtow to another emperor.

Linux Mint is at 21.3 and your video shows 21.1, old stuff.

Ubuntu is a big NO. I'm planning to move to LDME 6. Tired of Ubuntu's BS. I'm planning to UNbuntu.
