Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, 84, is returning to Bangladesh to lead a caretaker government after a student-led uprising ended Sheikh Hasina's 15-year rule. He could be sworn in as the new leader by Thursday evening, initiating what the army chief calls a "beautiful democratic process." Meanwhile, Tarique Rahman, the exiled acting chairman of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is calling for immediate elections. The student protests, which began on July 1, forced Prime Minister Hasina to flee to New Delhi. These events have severely impacted Bangladesh's economy, with losses estimated in the billions. Businesses now face uncertainty as Yunus steps in to guide the interim government in Dhaka.

I think Sheikh Haseena will be what Indira Gandhi was to India...some 30-40 years down the lane when she is long gone, Bangla people may still remember some good works she has done..i dont think the govt formed after new election will be able to sustain the growth easily..hopefullly I will be proven wrong..my gen in India didnt face emergency by Indira so we dont have same horrible memeories as others..plus Indira Gandhi knew when to resign and was re- elected after a defeat...If this lady would have resigned early on time, she would have had a different fate (I bet after one defeat she/ her party would have been back in power)..in that sense she is not as smart as Indira Gandhi who allowed people to vent the right way through election)..plus I guess Indian population loved Indira at a time when internet was not around and the population was more idealistic/ willing to forgive
