Configuring IPv6 Routing | Free CCNA Training Course

Welcome to the Free CCNA Training Course. This series is for anyone who wants to build on their basic network skills, and even pass the CCNA 200-301 exam.

Section 3 of this series covers IPv6. This covers topics such as an IPv6 overview, how IPv6 addresses work, address types, address assignment, and routing with IPv6.

The website has additional links for further study to take you to the next level. Links are at the end of the description.

In this video, we’re going to cover:
0:00 Static Routing
1:57 OSPFv3

IPv6 is routable, just as IPv4 is. We can create static routes in the same way that we do for IPv4. ‘ipv6 route …’ Unnumbered interfaces can be configured to use link-local addresses as next hops.

OSPFv3 is the newest version of OSPF. It has been updated to add IPv6 support. Other than that, the concepts are very similar to the OSPF you’re familiar with.
Cisco’s implementation uses ‘address families’. This is where OSPFv3 can be configured with more than one protocol (that is, IPv4 and IPv6) at the same time. Each address family refers to one of these protocols.
