I love growing ginger up in Nova Scotia (zone 6). We don’t have a long season for it but we can still get a good harvest!

"Listen to this". Only a gardener appreciates that statement. ♥️

OMG, that is fantastic! I love young ginger! Raw, pickled, sauteed, any way possible. It is delicious! and a completely different plant than the old ginger. Drooling!

If you would like to harvest ginger or turmeric, try to pouring water heavily ahead and let it be for about an hour or so and can easily pull out without any broken rizhome

To those getting hung up on whether it's ginger or galangal, I have bought honest-to-god ginger from the store and grown it and it looked exactly like this one

You are a saviour. My ginger stems and leaves have all turned brown. I will harvest them today.

I am zone 9b by Tampa and I leave my ginger and turmeric in my big pots and use as needed. I pulled a huge clump of turmeric last spring and had to pot it up because I couldn't keep up. It grows fast and huge here because I guess it likes the weather!

Beautiful young ginger!
I don't know if you know this, but turmeric leaves are used as ingredients in South East Asian dishes like Rendang. The leaves are sliced thinly and added towards the end of cooking, like 5-10 mins before it's done. The aroma is heavenly!

The young ginger is used for pickling. Yummy

Ginger is great because it requires no care beyond water! A forgotten pot at the gardens edge can season an entire bed of produce.

Can you share how you process it? Which bits you keep, what you use, and what you replant? Thanks a bunch!
