Thankfully we didn’t get the Roman numeral II and we instead got the perfect 2

I really like the BBC1! BBC2 and Channel 4 are also kind of ok.

I'd imagine if the BBC ones were finished they'd look better, people here are acting like we'd get it in this state if it was chosen.

Thanks for these; I'd seen the latter two but the BBC ones are new to me.

Obviously the Beeb needed something like these (with just the number) to go with the new corporate logo... rough as it is, you can sorta see how they went from the BBC1 one at least, to the much more refined look that eventually took to the screen. The roman numeral motif is a bit of an odd idea, I get it'd be an attempt to be classy by early 90s Beeb but perhaps a tad *too* highbrow even for then... and there are better ways to do that (like... well, the eventual BBC1 ident really).

In a way I sorta prefer the beta versions of the ITV hearts idents to what they eventually got, but I'm in a place that doesn't do British-style continuity over them. What they went with would've sat a lot better with them, who didn't have to wait 10 to 15 seconds for the ident to play out. Or the ad selling folk, as all the extra few seconds would add up to maybe half an ad break over the course of a day... compromises, alas.

The less said about the test ch4 ident, the better - aside it probably being a way to get away from the costs of the original Fourscore earlier than they did. Definitely made the right decision with keeping the original logo but that's something easily said with 30 years of hindsight!
