I think we figured out what was in the box, almost a decade later.

"Some things are better left forgotten, forever, " Michael said as he put his Foxy mask in a box.

What if, this whole time, Scott was just making a very elaborate and under appreciated Se7en (1995) reference, and he did all this just so he can have a little laugh whenever we yell “WHAT’S IN THE BOX?!”

maybe the contents of the box were the friends we disagreed with along the way

I always thought the box was a symbol of Fnaf as a whole. The quote, "Perhaps some things are best left forgotten, for now." could represent the mysteries that still haven't been answered, and seeing that Fnaf is at a second phase, with new concepts with repeating themes, while introducing new characters, and characters that reflect old characters, we are also seeing connections in the newer games from the older games.

The parallel of Mike having his foxy mask in the box to the Bonnie bro mask in help wanted 2’s box is really narratively satisfying! I don’t really know how the chica beak clue would support this theory since to me at least, it leans more into dream theory. But the other 3 clues can work with your interpretation and it’s fun to think about!

I think that Michael experiences not only nightmares, but also the memories of his younger brother, where he mocked him.

To me it seems the most logical solution to what's in the trunk is Bite Victim's stuff :( FoxyBro held onto the trunk and that is why he continues to be haunted by the nightmares which eventually lead him to going back to Freddy's to try communicating with his brother. I have to wonder sometimes if FoxyBro became the killer. "The party was for you." could point to the MCI being a horrific birthday party for BiteVictim with kidnapped children in attendance.

I've heard that the hint from "Scott" asking, "Have you thought about who the night guard is?" was fake. Or, that it wasn't actually Scott asking that.

Despite that, I do genuinely think whoever wrote that had an excellent point.

Also, I like how "Four Games. One Story." implies we played as Mike/FoxyBro in FNAF 2 as either Jeremy Fitzgerald or Fritz Smith (the latter being the most likely in my eyes).

And I love your theory of the Foxy Mask being in the box. It probably would have steered the conversation more into who owned the mask and why *they* in particular has such a seemingly significant part in the story that their mask in the box.

As for what I think what is/was in the box, I think it was just the whole story: the pieces put together.
And he was worried about showing the whole story with him asking, "But would the community accept it that way?"
And I can definitely see why he would have been. The majority of the fun and appeal of FNAF is its mystery and the community coming together to solve its story. He pretty much said exactly that in the steam post:

"You know, when I released the first game over a year ago, I was amazed at how quickly everyone found every bit of lore and story. Then the same happened with part 2, fans and youtubers dug in and found everything. Game Theory did an incredible video on part 2; getting almost everything right. Then part 3 came out, and once again the story was uncovered by the community. It seemed that there was nothing I could hide!"

The excitement and sheer *fun* from that text is so *palpable!*
This really shows to me just how much Scott loves not only his story but the fandom's involvement in solving it and coming together to do so.

Maybe one day if we ever come to fully solve FNAF 4's story and how it connects to its predecessors, he'll open the box for us. Or maybe when he finishes the current story he's telling in the Steel Wool era (which, to me, has so many subtle connections to the past era that seem like they will eventually come into play).

A guy can dream.

I feel like if Scott had rearranged the way he revealed these clues in the livestream folks would've gotten closer to the conclusion that you've made here. It also would've made the sister location secret room less vague.

Maybe if he first said "who is the security guard in these games" then "four games one story", then "why would chica be missing her beak" and honestly, omit or change the wording of "what can be seen in the shadows etc etc" that livestream could've gone in a better direction.

I say omit/change the "what a child can see in the shadows" (sorry i forget the quote) is because I dont think anyone was thinking of Michael/Foxy bro as the child. At the time and still to this day people colloquially refer to the boy we see flashbacks of in FNAF 4 as the "Crying Child". Pair this with the hospital stuff and fnaf 1 audio playing I can very clearly see why Matpat came up with Dream Theory.

I was still confused on how Michael could be the fnaf 4 protagonist but your video has convinced me! Thank you!

I think Michael is trying to forget this horrible memory, it's interesting that the survival logbook has an interesting question about who is to blame for the bite where Mike replies that the child tripped over the animatronics.

I actually think that the Chica’s beak hint fits Michael having the dream perfectly; because we know that Fnaf2 is a prequel to Fnaf 1. There’s already a theory going around that Michael is the Fnaf 2 night guard we play as during custom night (Fritz Smith), so Mike very well could have seen the beak come off Chica and molding that into his dreams.

I fully believe this is absolutely possible, and likely especially considering pq4.

I remember back in the day matpat suggesting it could be the golden Freddy mask in the box, because that's what CC would've worn to the party. But that never sat right with me because CC DID go to the party, but he didn't have a mask. That being said, it's interesting to think that there was a mask in the box all along, he just had the wrong one

This theory actually actually convinced me, partially because I’ve always believed fnaf 4 was Michael, but I hadn’t been sure how the pieces fit together since dream theory had seemed to have been the actual explanation for the livestream hints, as well as the hospital equipment.

By explaining the what is seen in shadows line as referring to the missing children, the pieces click together. Especially since in the game after 4 Michael talks about the funtime animatronics, saying, they thought I was you. (Note I know the line is referring to the funtimes not others, but it still works as a hint for clarifying the past game)

Imagine how crazy it would be if in a future game Scott revealed that inside of the box was just another box.

Wait, the halloween update has the puppet, balloon boy, mangle, and the it's related to the fall fest?!

You unlock the same characters in fnaf world update 2, and the new area in that update looks kinda like how I'd imagine the fall fest place looking like.

And there's also the connections fnaf world has to the direction the franchise is going.

Is that world basically another version of fnaf 4? It's the flipside after all...

Holy shit the illusion discs.... In twisted ones we read that the illusion discs and change your perception of reality. Making blank endos look like super cutesy animatronics (the adventures) or horrifying nightmares (the twisted/nightmares)
