I was doing this just last night. I bowl with my index and pinky fingers up against my middle and ring fingers with a slight axis tilt. Last night, I was leaving a few 10-pins. To fix it, I literally moved my index finger out just about the width of the finger and increased the tilt so that I was rolling more off the index finger than the whole hand. That slight angle increase was just what I needed to carry the 10-pin. Great tip!

Mr. O'Connor, thank you for this video. I think I spoke to you about my problem, I leave alot of 10 pins. I will try this the next time I go bowling. Kenny Sonnes

Art, today I used the pinky tuck, and index finger pressure on the ball. Works very well when done correctly gives me a very strong release. Keeps me from topping the ball. Very strong release. Thanks Art

Literally this video has been the most helpful thing I've ever found. If I tuck my pinky under its atomic 10 pin. I hit 10 in a row last night on the first ball.

I remembered this today doing some practice games, started leaving 10 pins on right lane, tucked the Pinky and went off the sheet, , thanks for the tip!

I remember a TV show from the 1960s called "The Invaders", about aliens who came here to take over our planet.
You could tell who were aliens because their pinky fingers could not bend.
I'm now satisfied that you, Art, are of this planet. But be careful if any of your students "can't" bend their pinky...

Thank you so much Mr O'Connor for this video! You just made me remember how I used to be able to hit corner pins so consistently, but due to less practice time, I kinda went back to gutter spree. Once again this really refreshed my approach and release, so big thanks!

Interesting! As I’m sure you are aware, one of our favorite books (Bowling, Beyond the Basics) argues that the simplest solution is the best, and for a pesky 10 pin that’s usually a half-board right with your feet (for a righty, of course), but I’m going to also try your suggestion soon!

My friend (who has been bowling for over 30yrs) told me to back up a little bit if I keep leaving the 10th pin, seems to work too.

Will be trying to tuck my pinky. Use to do it many years ago. Then reinvented my self to drop from 195 to 175 average. Gonna work this week tucking my pinky and pushing my index finger hard against back of ball

It makes just enough difference sometimes. I have also got a bowling glove no metal support but the index finger is real tacky and the pinky is too. I don't use it all the time but when I am hanging the 10 sometimes it helps get that extra turn. I also stretch out my finger. Or often step forward or back is enough to fix a ten. One trick I use to use years ago when throwing at the ten pin is to put your ring finger in the middle finger hole and a pinky in the ring finger hole and throw the 10 pin like this. It is hard to create lift and will produce very little hook. I did this for years but after a 15 year break started up again and have been bowling again for 5 or 6 months now, But I figured out how to rotate my arm and just push the ball and it rolls almost dead straight now and I am making 90% or them or more.

Great tip, Coach! What if the bowler already has high axis tilt and starts leaving corners? Will these fingers positions also help that type of bowler?
