My sister has a tv stand that's also a fake fireplace/electric heater. That's a much more renter friendly option, albeit less cool :)

That’s a great idea for someone who’s looking to get a functional fireplace in that space but judging by the picture she showed I doubt that’s the style she’s going for. To have a fireplace like she showed, she’d need a solid plain wall behind it.
