I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for...

Aaron -- WHY would your new wife stay home when you will just be newly married, you do not have a high income ($50, 000), you're just 22 - don't you want to work until you have kids to save up enough to have a house? I know she wants to volunteer at the Christian school, but right now you need to get some financial stability under yourselves - savings, house down payment, etc.

For the first couple: even her bringing in $30, 000/ year could go so far especially if they can live off of one income and bank the rest. Also, if you all do the volunteering she could look into going to a community college for free or for the low low that way she’s using this time before kids to grow her earning potential and secure more of her future and that of the family.

Correction, you don't have to wait until you file your taxes to take advantage of a Tax credit you know you qualify for such as the child tax credit. You're able to get that money during the year.

Dustin in Ohio. DON'T DO IT!! I am from St. Augustine Florida, born and raised there. You're going to starve on 60k in St Johns county. Go there on more vacations and keep your high-paying job or find another state that is cheaper that has water or a beach, but the cost of living there is high and homeowners insurance and property taxes are going through the roof every year.

48:00 another solution for James in Hartford, CT would be for he and his wife to sell their house and move into the top half of the duplex. No more dealing with tenants, but Mom still can catch a break on rent. This would help the budget.

George, referring to the Idaho guy trying to save $200K for his home purchase…I think Dave would have been a little curious about what sector of the Idaho economy is “booming”. The caller mentioned his business is really taking off. Just an observation from somebody who’s been listening to Dave since the early 1990’s.
