Why do you need to cross the ends in the beginning? It looks awkward when you have to cross your hands to push the knot down.

Some surgeons have told me that crossing hands to square the knots is wrong. However, crossing hands is the only way to get properly squared knots. Any thoughts?

What's the use of the two handed knots, when you can do the one handed knots?

Thanks for making these videos! I was taught that when two handed tying you wanted to still simulate a “post” with one hand, with the hand on the needle side serving as the post. If that’s the case, you want the “needle side” hand doing the C and the other hand pushing the knot down in order to maintain the post. In this video sometimes the knot is pushed down with the post hand, sometimes the other. What are your thoughts?

Imagine that's wet monofilament, you're assisting the operating surgeon and he's not going to want to release the needle. He will likely want a surgeon's knot...first throw double with just the right tension and second squared. I can hear my old professor asking, "Doctor, why are you crossing your hands?" Or, "You're obscuring my view of your second throw." When I'm alone (and sometimes not), I tie a granny knot initially to adjust the tension and then place a third throw squarely. I can flip the second throw of the granny first, if the tissues are strong, otherwise add one extra square throw. Have done it that way scores of thousands of times without a known failure.
