How to Make a Simple Vice Workbench | DIY Woodworking

Videos made possible by Patrons Abi Rocha; Matt Holt; Pacho Soto; Bram Smit. Thank you!

The essential feature of any workshop (besides electrics and lighting) is the worksbench. This is the COVID CAVE take on a simple 2.4m long 1.2m wide table. Ignoring the circular saw mishap, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, ironically the hardest part about this was that I had to work off the ground/ladders - just goes to show how crucial a good work surface at the correct height really is! I'll be sharing the designs on Patreon for anyone who'd like to copy this and I'll explain why some of the decisions were made in regards to certain features.

Funny story about you putting the blade backwards, I worked with a guy that put the blade on backwards for 15 years….I told him our first day working together that his blade on the saw was backwards and he didn’t believe me. I had to convince all the other contractors to bring their saw over to show him how the blade goes. When he finally turned it around and made his first cut, the look on his face was priceless.

I don't know about you, but I felt a sense of relief when you started building the table. Ahhh! Back at my craft again! Who cares that the rent is overpriced? You get to work at your craft again!

Great Job! Sucks about the blade but we all have dough brained it at one time or another
Unless you intend to break down the work bench in the future, you should put a little wood glue in the joints to add some rigidity. Also, you can get some 3/4 thread inserts for each foot, then add carriage head bolts in the bottom of each foot. Then, you will have leveling screws!
I built -4- of these for our wood shop & they have never let me down.
I did bolt mine together rather than nailing it, we ran 4, 000 board feet a week across them :)
Keep up the great work, I have been binge watching all your video's & needless to say, you know what you are doing!!

Good bit of wood working, your table design will be handy for me to build a leather working table, your table is large enough to shift those hides around.
A tip for fitting a sawblade or cutting disc, if you can't read the text on it then it's fitted the wrong way round!, but similar happened me too!
I was turning metal on my lathe and thought the bit I used was very shitty as it needed a lot of pressure to remove any material, until I discovered that I forgot to change rotation direction after cutting a bore which needs the lathe to turn the other way.

Brain Farts Happen! Buddy of mine spent a day trying to drill 1 inch holes through his floor joists to run an electrical wire. When I showed up he did nothing but bitch and complain about his piece of crap drill. I looked at it, put it in forward and it drilled great. We did put in a new bit as he pretty much burned the other one up. I have been in construction all my life doing mostly remodeling of old houses. I am 72 yrs old. Live in Northern Minnesota. I really enjoy your videos, I have cousins in the UK and if I ever get over there again, I would love to buy you and your helper a beer.

You're not the first nor the last person to put the blade in backwards. Did it myself a week ago, but realised it within seconds, and didn't go for the king. Greetings from Denmark.

I'm wondering how many youtubers would have edited out the sawblade part :) Respect and keep up the good work, whatever the heck you are up to in that garage.

I've done the backwards saw blade a few times myself. The backwards chainsaw chain is my favourite though. Thanks for keeping it real...made me laugh. Love your work.

i prefer a diamond stone. does a great job and it wont wear unevenly like a wet stone. whatever works right. and no matter how good you are and how good your honing guide is you will have to resurface it or replace it.
