Basic Double Leg Takedown Setups - Wrestling For Jiu Jitsu

Two BASIC double leg setups when your opponent ties up with you or posts on your shoulders.

☝🏽 Option 1 - SNAP through the arms. Notice how I snap through the arms by the lower forearm area / closer to their wrist. Trying to snap through their biceps/upper arms would be inefficient and overpower my snap.

✌🏽 Option 2 - POP their arms. Notice how when I pop, my C clamp hands are popping ABOVE the elbow line. Anything below the elbow line could slide down their arm or even be defended if they bend their arm. Bend or no bend, when you are above the elbow line, you clear their arms.

🧠 BIG detail with either the SNAP or POP 👉🏽 as I am clearing their arms I am simultaneously level changing into my penetration step. This kills two birds with one stone clearing their arms and loading my legs to blast in for the shot.

Hello, I’m new to mma and is my dream to compete in it in the next 1-2 years. I’ve read a lot about double leg. Am I supposed to have my rear leg on the floor first or my lead leg first?

If I snap the arms down would it not be easier for the opponent to sprawl?

I wouldn't snap the arms. Putting them in position to defend the take down. Anyone with quick reflexes will stop this
