15 Cancelled Disney Movies We Wish Got Made

Not all animated movies make it to the big screen. Typically at a film studio, there are many concepts that are being developed at the same time and only the biggest and baddest make it (no, we’re not just talking about Shrek.) Today, we’ll be looking at fifteen Disney films that were in production, but who never got their happily ever after. At number 0ne we have the Pinocchio live action film that got shut down. Apparently Disney couldn’t get it together to finally turn that puppet into a real boy. Number two is a film called Fraidy Cat about a feline who has lost three of his nine lives and isn’t looking to lose any more. At number three we looked at the flick Wild Life - a film based off of My Fair Lady, but instead of Audrey Hepburn at the helm it’s an elephant who wants to make it big in show business. Number four was a movie called The Emperor and the Nightingale which was adapted from the Hans Christian Anderson story about an emperor that gives up his beloved bird for a mechanical one. Next up at number five we have The King of Elves, a story about an old man who somehow ends up becoming the protector of a mythical race. Number six is Chanticleer, a tale about a cocky rooster who believes his crow is what makes the sun rise. Number seven is Mort, an almost Halloween classic about a boy who does an apprenticeship for Death but screws everything up. Number eight is Newt, a TAIL of two blue-footed newts who despise each other but it’s up to them to save their dying race. Number nine is Gigantic, a film that would’ve been HUGE (no pun intended, but also pun very much intended) about Jack (the one with the beanstalk) who forms an unlikely friendship with a giantess. Number ten is Toot’s and the Upside-Down House, a beautiful story about a girl who discovers an upside-down world that is thankfully nothing like the one in Stranger Things. The Bremen Town Musicians is our eleventh pick, and it’s the story of a bunch of farm animals who escape their dull lives to make it as - you guessed it - musicians. At number twelve, we have Hootsie the Owl, a misfit bird who sleeps soundly during the night and is awake during the day. The lucky number thirteen is Which Witch, a film that would’ve starred a magician who goes looking for love and instead of using Tinder, hosts a contest to find the girl. Last, but not least, we have Louis the Bear, Pooh Bear’s competition. Join us as we mourn the Halloween costumes that could have been and the toys that didn’t even get a story.

1:00 > "And sure, we agree that all the underage drinking, smoking and gambling that takes place in the original might have been ever so slightly off-color to a modern day audience."
Why? It's not gratuitous.
The movie CLEARLY MAKES THE POINT that drinking/smoking/gambling are means to pacify you, making you prey to people who will ensnare and exploit you. Even worse when you are underage.
Being offended for the sake of being offended without even listening to what a piece of art says is really a terrible symptom of the 21st century.

I’m curious if (in like 20-30 years) Disney will remake their remakes. That would be ironic! 😂

"Gigantic" has an interesting concept!! Hopefully it and some of these films will come back around!!

I think Mort could work if Laika made the film, I think their unique style of stop motion animation would fit Pratchett's world. And it would be great if Henry Selleck or Terry Gilliam was director.

I would LOVE to see gigantic, it looked so nice! I hope the developers see these comments and change their mind about gigantic and maybe actually release it. :)

I would totally go see “King of the Elves”, “Mort”, “Gigantic”, and “Toots and the Upside-down House”. The rest I’m less interested in.

A FEW CORRECTIONS
- "Wild Life" was based on Pygmalion, not My Fair Lady, and had Ella the elephant become a star on the New York club circuit. It was cancelled as the story was deemed "too adult".
- "The Nightingale" starring Mickey was not going to be it's own movie, it was one of the segments of the Fantasia sequel 'Musicana' that was in development before it was cancelled.
- "Louis the Bear" was also not going to be it's own movie, it was the original story idea for 'The Rescuers' where he asks them to help find a little girl who has gone missing, before the movie was reworked and his character removed.
