This makes so much sense, and I am a math major myself back in the day. I was super-motivated by saving the maximal red cent so I happened to do it by paying off the highest-interest rate debt - but I absolutely agree that if that is not a personal motivator, then what I did is NOT the way to do it. The real way to do it is to do the things Dave says, and win for once and for all. I am debt free since 2006 but I would also have been out had I done it Dave's way. He speaks total truth.

We went to the Larry Burket seminar, very similar to Dave's. Sad after all theses years of work, all we have is debt to show. I am so ashamed and worried about it that I am going to do something drastic about it. Thanks for reminding me of what we are supposed to be doing. Getting out of DEBT !!

I asked my buddy one day. How would you like to have 10 thousand dollars and a new car. Nop he said. I told him all you have to do is quit smoking. Yup he spent 10 thousand on cigarettes. Some people just don't want to get out of the whole they dug.

We don't have any credit card debt. Most of the money we paid to the credit card goes to the mortgage, the rest goes to savings which covers anything we might have purchased on the card. We have less than $40, 000 we owe on the mortgage. I'm looking for a job that pays well. The money I make should mostly go to the mortgage.
