Competing as an individual for 7 consecutive years, and wrapping up an 8th year as a team competitor, Jason is no rookie to the sport of fitness. Throughout his CrossFit Games career, Jason has only placed outside the Top 10 once, has won every Regional competition he has participated in, and he won the Spirit of the Games award in 2009. Jason - this is not a muscle up. I think you know that already. But if you don’t have a look at Maksim Trukhonovets world record from Nov 21. What you are doing is a kipping move - at best call it a CrossFit MU. It focuses on kipping momentum as opposed to shoulder, back and arm strength. It’s a good beginner move for those who haven’t got the strength to do a muscle up. I think CrossFit chooses to keep calling this a muscle up as it allows more people to think they have achieved an actual muscle up. Lots of the CrossFit guys I know can do the MU but are forced to concentrate on kipping because of CrossFit allowing low form moves in order to get rep numbers.
