Former corrections officer here:

When we ran into situations with a trans person like this, we would try to put them into their own cell. If that was not possible, we'd generally move them to another facility. They simply can't just be put into gen pop. At the prison they'd be put into protective custody for their entire stay at a male prison.

For strip search and shower, we would just ask them whether they would be most comfortable with a male, female, or both. Never would shower/strip without 2 officers.

Of course, each county and state will have their own guidelines. I was a co in Southeast Nebraska.

6:24 I'm transgender and went to jail earlier this year in nuecis, as far I know for texas you are respected as your gender on your ID until you go to population then they base where you go on what you have but they still call you by your preferred pronouns, I was scared but the male inmates actually understood and respected me too, they even covered the showers while I was showering cus an old dude was starring at me one they also uh.... handeld the dude.
