Parent groups are now rallying against books written by Black and queer authors.

The latest ban took place in North Kansas City in Missouri, as an anonymous complaint was made about two books. The district administration immediately removed the 2008 graphic novel “Fun Home” and the 2020 personal essay collection “All Boys Aren't Blue” from the library shelves of four high schools in two school districts.

George M. Johnson is the author of “All Boys Aren’t Blue,” which is also currently in development at Gabrielle Union’s “I’ll Have Another Productions” to be produced as a TV series.

They join Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to discuss people trying to ban these types of books.

All this and more on “Black News Tonight.”

All Boys Aren't Blue was one of the best non-fiction titles I read last year. I'm glad others read the book in media and understand how outlandish these calls for censorship are. Excited to read his follow up memoir.

Stop combining black and LGBTQ. Our issues and struggles are not the same and never will be.

This is absolutely disgraceful. So the only way we as a society can get taken seriously, given the opportunity to write a book... Is when we are bed wenches. SMH.

Protect innocence!!! Education should be focused on STEM. No sexuality and sexualizing the kids. This is another reason why this newer generations aren't prepared to compete with the global market. Focused on the wrong things SMH!

When we had sex education in schools we studied the female organs and the male organs and learned about reproduction The general conversation was never about sex or sexual partners or alternative sexual lifestyles

So let me understand this when black children read books in school, they are introduced to sexual orientation because it's good for them. However, if I mention Kwame Ture, Kwame Nkrumah, Martin Delany, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, that's offensive for whites. This is the reason I support segregated schools for our children because the education system currently constructed is indoctrinating our children with ideas that are not empowering or liberating.

If your children attend any US school, and you support their indoctrination is fine, but I will not support any white or Tom who helps the state educate my children on who they should become. We have a long stream of information on intellectuals, educators, inventors, and activists, which I don't need February to discuss. Black folks better wake up

I already know the channel's stances on things like this but I'm happy to see the viewers still holding integrity.

Seeing who wrote the book just confirms why it should’ve been banned. I’ve seen this guy in interviews with the breakfast club and the BNC and he’s clearly delusional.

Just to clarify I was talking about Lgbtq books should be banned in k-8 schools. It’s stupid, why do adults want kids younger than me to learn about that sh*t? Why can’t they read kid friendly books ? Now i agree that lgbtq books should be in high school (me) because we have a better understanding of it. Why is it such a issue to not want that content in k-8 lessons ? At some point boundaries need to be set. First lgbtq is present in children’s cartoons, now this 😕…

Why do y’all have that book with the black guy with flowers on his head, for real? It should be banned. School us no place for this mess. If I had read it I wouldn’t want it in my school. Enough is enough!!!

If the books were in grades k-8 schools then yes they should be banned, but it's okay for it to be in high school i guess.
