I live in a suburb of Stockholm. I have grown up here and there’s definitely been a change and we have huge problem. There been 3 explosions alone near where I live and numerous shootings. There’s no denying that. It’s real. However I still feel safe in Sweden. I lived in Barcelona for a while and I felt much more unsafe there.

Great that you did this video. We have to talk about these things. It won’t go away unless we do.

I feel sad when I see what is happening to our wonderful Sweden. I'm so old that I grew up in the 60s and 70s and that's a huge difference to today.
And the deterioration is due to bad political decisions from both right (open your hearts) and left (we didn't see it coming) parties.
It is not easy to turn Sweden around now, however, there is a certain positive lightening, the racist card is no longer pulled when the problem is discussed. So for future generations, I hope the politicians sober up and succeed.
Despite all the crap, Sweden is a good country to live in.

As swede, i have never felt unsafe beeing outside. Not even in the suburbs outside the bigger cities like alby, rinkeby, rågsved, rosengård, bergsjön. Alot of people seems to enjoy scaring other people with: -sweden has become dangerous and is on a decline. Tomorrow morning i am going to work outside in Tensta from 04.00 to 15.00 and i do not feel worried at all. I am more worried about getting killed in a car crash on essingleden by some moron that cant drive.

For the average person, it's about as safe or unsafe as the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands etc. If somebody feels that this is too unsafe to put up with, then some better options would for example be the other Nordic countries, some Central European countries and also the East Asian countries.

As an American this honestly feels normal. Then again I’m from Chicago

Im also a German living in Stockholm for the past 6 years and I have to say that since the violence escalated last January I'm not feeling as safe as I used to.
It also doesn't help that we are getting warnings from my 6 year old sons school about the gangs recluiting children 😢

It is happening in a bunch of European countries, not just Sweden. It has come from large scale immigration where people have then grouped together instead of integrating into the society, and then next generation ends up "outside" society. You will find certain specific areas where this happens spread over Europe.. You have areas in Stockholm, Paris etc where this is more likely. But the risk is still really low for anything happening. Even the risk everyone is aware of is, a traffic accident, is much less likely to kill you than you having a bad fall in a stair or something...

As you mentioned, these shootings happen between criminal gangs and not ordinary decent people. The common mistake many people make when they hear about shootings, explosions is that it can happen to anyone, it's only in people's imaginations that it can happen to anyone. Now that they are thinking about moving to Sweden, I have to say to those of you who are getting worried and maybe thinking about skipping moving to Sweden, ask yourself the question, am I a criminal and belong to a criminal gang that sells narcotics? If the answer is no (I don't know your background), then you have nothing to worry about either. Because as I said, these shootings take place between criminal gangs. If you are still worried, move up to Norrbotten, this is a safe county, no shootings, explosions. Furthermore, other advantages of Norrbotten are that here we don't have these storms, strong currents and torrential rain, like in southern Sweden and Europe.. Then in my city Kiruna, which is Sweden's northernmost city Kiruna, here there can't even be floods. Because Kiruna is located near mountain peaks and part of the town is built on a mountain, the water runs away all the time.

I’m thinking like this: Unless you are a gangmember or are hanging out with them, the risk of getting shot or blown up is minimal, there are much greater risks by living your day to day life, crossing a road or similar. Of course it is tragic and it all has to stop but the general peoples fears seem to be getting a bit out of hand.

I am Swede, not living in the big cities, but in a smaller city, but still we have had shootings and stabbing, and sometimes a lot of damage done by bangers. I am also travelling a lot in Sweden and see many perspectives as well knows many people living in problem areas.

My feeling is that, Sweden is very safe for everyone, well not for gang criminals, and like you said unluckily there have been a few incident with innocent victims.

The problem is that the world is misunderstanding a lot of the statistics from Sweden, well we have an increase in shooting and too many killed, same also with bombings, grenades, bangers and such. But compare it to any heavy criminal place on earth like USA, Mexico, Brasil and much more, you will see that Sweden doesn't even come close to these countries "per capita" in any kind of criminality.

Also one other thing many are trying to shame Sweden for is it's amount of statistical rape. Yes it happens and is sad but in most countries in the world if there are a gang rape they counting that rape as one incident while in Sweden we are counting each perpetrator as a rape, that means one gang rape in Swedish statistics can mean it shows up as 5 rapes while it was one incident. So be careful when comparing different statistical sources, always make sure the background material is the same to get a correct output.

Excellent video. I am a retired English teacher (EdD) in Ukraine now. However, we are now looking at moving to different countries that have a cool summer (my wife has MS, so hot summers are a problem). Northern territories, like Estonia, look affordable, safe, and interesting. Nearby is Sweden! We are looking for non-lucrative Visas. We will visit Krakow again. Maybe Austria & Switzerland, and maybe Paris, before heading back to the States. We might sell our home in Portland, Oregon. What American-friendly and safe countries would you recommend?

In the U.S. we have had over 300 mass shootings so far this year. So sad. Count your blessings that you live in a safe country like Sweden.

Another thing that will most likely trigger haters and trolls. Statistics show that crime overall in Sweden has gone down over the past few years, it’s the level of violence that is infinitely worse.

I've been following the gang violence in the news. I'm originally from Scotland and now live in Jamtland. We've been here going on two years now and I have to say, I still feel fairly safe here, more so than back in the UK and Ireland (where we also lived). I don't think there's a country on earth where there is no violence and crime. Sweden, imo, is safer than most. I do still think they need to discuss and deal with the gang issue, but yes, I think Sweden's bad crime PR given out to the world at large is pretty overblown compared to say, the UK.

Interesting information how you feel. Not sure what happened in Sweden. I'm going to research more about what happen recently in your country Sweden.

Gangsters often form groups to gain bargaining power. This can be caused by many reasons, but mostly it is a problem of not having a job or having money. When gangs offer opportunities to earn money or provide protection, people with similar experiences join together. Violent incidents often result from people in a gang having problems with one another or between gangs. which often ends in violence.

This was a very balanced and sensible video, thank you for that. There have been a couple of shootings in my neighbourhood but I never actually noticed and I still feel safe.

I see so many crime shows on tv (Beck, Annika Bentzon) that are based in Stockholm along with the Stigg Larsen books, it gives an image that there is lots of crime in Sweden
