Full motion portrayal for emotional response is greatest at about 70-75fps. The optimum speed is therefore about 72fps three times 24fps - or a multiple of that. With the convergence of 'film' and TV it makes sense to choose a common speed that is a new world wide standard as film is now, not merely a narrow market limited to either 50Hz or 60Hz countries.

Sounds like a great move to 48 and 60 FPS. Would love to see Retail Movies on a LCD that supports the higher FPS along with game companies producing native HFR designed FPS games. Anime would be another industry that would be able to embrace HFR. For example. I would love to see what Gundam 00 would look like in 1080p HFR

hi, i dont know if this is relivant to xbox 360 hdmi or ( 1080p ) hd gameing. but whenever i play on my falt screen vizio tv, the frame rate seems choppy. like, say i was to turn fast in the game. it would seem that it is a little skippy. but when i turn slowly, it works just fine and its grate! by the way its like this for all games and all physics. if you can help it would be most apprecieated :) sorry for the spelling!

i read 'the animators survival kit' and it commented how once a walk cycle done originally at 24fps looked smoother at 12- with less drawings.  our eyess and brains have limeted focus so actions tend to blur.  in 3d fx blur had to be applied to perfect rendered objects just to make it look convincing and as we can be seen with the alian ship- blur is less at the hi fr but spinning at same cps so will look like a perfect render minus convincing m-blurr an can come of looking articial.  untill our brains get use to this new level of info some of us will feel that is the case.  with variable fr codecs you could save gigs opting only to use hifr in chosen scences like 12fps for walks and 24fps for runs- or for focused moments.  still more 'more' has proven faultless with resolution so hifr is not gonna stop-

I still see cinemas promoting that they have the capabilities for it but shame it didn't take off the way it sounded like it would. I saw 2 out of the 3 The Hobbit's in HFR 3D (was a delay in seeing the last and my cinema barely showed the HFR 3D during and only during the first week) and thought it looked amazing. Was kinda weird at first cause it almost felt like watching it on fast forward with the soundtrack blasting out at the correct speed clearly in synch with picture telling me that it was meant to look like that. Once you got used to that no denying it made a difference

It's like an Apple ad, but without all of the bullshit talking :D
very interesting topic; I am a PC gamer and I own a 120hz monitor, meaning it can display up to 120frames per second. It looks even smoother than 60 already does, it is really amazing for gaming, because no matter how quickly you look around you can not see and juddering. It is less important for movies tho, 60FPS will become and stay the standard for a long time at the cinema. Really exciting stuff :)

Hell no, 3D is a bunch of dull but HFR was totally awesome, can't wait for it to be the new standard for movies!

To me, HFR is like 3D, a nuisance to watch, and a trick to get people to go to and pay more for movies. Why not just make good movies? I'd much rather see Empire Strikes Back in low frame rate than Attack of the Clones in HFR3D nightmare land.
