HD/S-VHS/SuperBeta Quality comparison [Perfect 10]

This is a comparison between Full-HD and the best possible quality Super VHS and SuperBeta Pro recordings I can produce.
All machines used are serviced and working up to spec.
This is probably the best quality recordings these formats can achieve.

Information about recorders and procedure:

Hauppauge Impact VCBe
Digital processing:
De-interlaced 50i to 50p using Yadif2x (VLC), upscaled by VLC.

VHS:
Recording Type: Super VHS + hifi (PAL625)
Deck: 2003 Philips VR1000 (Made by JVC)
Tape: 3M Master Broadcast SE-30
Interface: S-Video (In+Out)
Perks: TBC enabled, automatic BIAS adjustment used

Beta:
Recording Type: SuperBeta Pro + hifi
Deck: 1985 Sony SL-HF950ES
Tape: Sony Dynamicron PRO-X L-500
Interface: Composite (In+Out)
Perks: Perfect pre-calibration to the Sony tape used

I am aware of the Beta machine being almost 20 years older than the VHS machine. This comparison is between the best quality that these formats were able to achieve during their lifespan. The Beta machine would destroy every single VHS on the market in 1985 in quality.

That's absolutely amazing quality for a machine made in 1985 - especially considering it's probably slightly sharper quality than the 2003 machine. Would it be possible to see more comparisons between Betamax and VHS, please? :)

The old tape formats have a soul that HD digital sucks right out of the footage

Despite the significant theorethical superiority of S-VHS (400 vs 290 lines) I actually found SuperBeta and S-VHS to be very similar in quality; if I had to choose one I would probably even say SuperBeta had the slight advantage.
It might be just down to the different gear used for recording/playback/transfer though.

All of them have high quality audio. The highest is the 1080p Full HD.

Beta has better color than SVHS, but the resolution is slightly better in SVHS, I wonder how would it look on a standard VHS.

I didn't realise you switched sound sources too. Had to re-watch the whole video to compare, lol! I think that you didn't normalize the volume of the sound, the HDMI is louder and human mind thinks it's better. If the volume was identical on all of them, I doubt I would be able to tell the difference.
