Vegan butternut squash soup!
One onion chopped
2 tbs vegetable oil
3 garlic cloves minced
one butternut squash, skin peeled and seeded
3 cups vegetable broth
2 cups sliced tomato or one can
3 handfuls of kale or spinach
1 can lentils
2 tbs pepper
2 tbs cumin
2 tbs creole seasoning
cayenne pepper if you like to get spicy with it

I start by cooking the chopped onion, about 5 minutes in my pot. Add minced garlic and do not over cook, maybe 2 to 3 minutes. Add chopped butternut squash, lentils, tomato then add vegetable broth. If the butternut squash is not floating or covered in the broth I add a little bit of extra water. Mix around then add pepper, Creole seasoning, Cumin, and Cayenne pepper. Add spinach or kale. Cover and let it simmer until the butternut squash is nice and soft. Be careful not to make it too soft though.
Hope you enjoy and let me know how it turns out below!!

I will never forget that vessel.. i worked 38 hours straight and built every piece of furniture in that tug. While ricky and 2 helpers installed it. Built and finished in 3 days. Jitterbug had many changes and wanted it done asap. Fun fact.. everything inside the shell of the boat was completely removed.everything. first time i ever seen that done.

Wow🤯 super well done! I’m a Captain operating tow boats on the Mississippi River and inland waterways and life for our deck crews is very much the same, although building, breaking, locking, etc. of tows plays a much larger role in their daily duties. Fantastic film man, really well edited👍👍👍👍👍

Hey Jake, cool to see that you're on the Captain D. My step dad, John Hammer, has spent many days on that boat in the big apple. Just turned in my application for Norfolk Tug & Vane so I will be living the same lifestyle as you very soon.

Great video. Enjoyed watching. I was in the United States Navy for 6 years and no what it’s like to live on a boat.

My old man would have whooped my ass if I ever hung a line up with left hand turns! Hes one salty old brooklyn Captain. I worked down in the city for quite a few yeard as an OS, joined MM&P union as well. Then switched to a company upstate and worked the canals and great lakes. Got enough sea time now to be a mate or engineer. Got off the boats to be home more with my kids. Started my own mechanic business. Its been going great...but man...i sure do miss them long trips steering up the hudson river or tuggin along in long island sound, even the nasty trips in the Gowanus canal. It was probably the best career I ever had. Maybe Ill go back again someday. Good video bud, just remember....No left hand turns!!! Lol

Usually the shoulder line goes forward. Atleast on any boat I worked on. Never seen it backing.... which line pushes the barge when you come ahead?

I was on the Pathfinder for a year with the same company. Not a bad gig but the pay could have been better.

Bro, I cannot believe you stuck your camera (presumably your phone) in a ships brave man.

How did you apply for this job ? I got hired as a deckhand for a city cruise company also in NYC, just waiting for my drug and background check. Im just going to go into it for the expirience and maybe move on to work on a tugboat instead. Its been a little hard to find deckhand jobs I got lucky with this one.

Was expecting another random first person tugboat day montage. Pleasantly surprised. I am assuming you are working on a film degree or have some sort of schooling? Your camera work and ideas are outstanding. Merry Christmas from a Vane Bros tankerman.

Edit: do you live up here as well? I notice your attire. Do you surf? Rockaway/Long Island and Monmouth County surfer as well as Vane Bros tankerman over here
