My issue with slims was the laser. It would always go and then start scratching my PS2 discs, always annoyed me and why I prefer the og PS2.

Take it apart and give the shell a good cleaning with IPA or soapy water. A very light touch of some silicone lubricant on the friction points for the button internals really makes it feel new and crispy.

I never had a problem with the slim. When I still had the ps2 it worked like a dream. My grandmother accidentally pushed it on while I was not there and they couldn’t figure out how to turn it off though they could have just unplugged it… but they didn’t think of that I guess. It was on for at least a month. Found that out when I came to visit again. Now it would get really hot now but that was my only problem. Surprised that was the only problem after it being on for that long LOL

I had this problem with my PS1, I was showing someone how it was broken and would keep opening, and then it fixed. I dont know what I did, but i accidentally fixed it.

Just push down on the right side of the door. I have the same issue and that always worked for me

What I do is I kinda like massage the area of the eject button. Or basically hit repeatedly until the button is smooth or the door locks

with my childhood ps2 i had the same problem and my dad’s solution was to buy a brick, break it, and give me the smallest piece that was heavy enough to keep it shut

Crazy many moons ago, I had a similar problem, I would just put something heavy on top of it as well😅

I remember having this issue as a kid so I put an unopened jar of pickles on top of the PS2 and it worked perfectly😂.

I thought you would talk about the Flex cable on the DVD drive. But this is a reason why the FAT PS2 is still standing

I still have this exact problem with mine in big 2025. Putting weight on the PS2 only worked so far. Now the laser itself has deteriorated as well so it can barely read original discs and can't read pirated discs at all despite having a hardmod installed. I ended up having to softmod it to keep using it. Now I have a PS2 slim that's both softmodded and hardmodded lol

I see two possible solutions. Internal repair and an external latch.
Im not familiar with the slim so i cant say for sure if the spring can be easily accessed, but an external "latch" could easily be glued on the outside(for examples check out close assistance for walk-in coolers/freezers or luggage latches)

Scotch tape the right side down of the unit or wrap a large/wide rubber band on the aforementioned top loading side.

Perhaps a tab of hot glue on the tip of the little arm that gets caught by the latching mechanism so it has a bit more surface area to grab onto the weak spring has less travel? It's jank but you won't need to open the thing up.
