I have the pixel 6a. Google makes some really good smartphones for the price. The only gripe I have is the refresh rate but I would consider that as a nitpick.

Partially agree. It's Exynos-based CPU cores are now 3 gen old. It's display is only sRGB where all flagships typically have P3 color, and some users are able crack their metal backs without doing anything (claims on Twitter and Reddit). Buying a Pixel is like the equivalent of a casino gambling act. Either it’s the best phone on the market or the worst phone on the internet. I don’t trust Google that much to make the switch, privacy aside—which is blown way out of proportion by Apple fanboys. I’m not sure if I’ll get a Pixel 7, but I’m eyeing the A-series to try it out and see if I like it. Right now, I’m so hesitant because of the bad press it got from various people in the community.
