“Sì, mi chiamano Mimì” is still probably the most heartfilled and touching aria that Puccini ever wrote. His beauty consists in his innocence: we don’t know Mimì yet, it’s not a dramatic aria, only a presentation to a neighbor telling him her attitudes and dreams. Then here it comes “ma quando vien lo sgelo…” and music seems to tell us that, despite the future cold death of this young lady, that the tenderness of the sun and the beauty of spring still belongs to her: because she’s full of passion, and full of life. And that’s what Bohème is all about. Youth, fun, and of course, as a classic for Giacomo: tremendous passion.

I agree Sour Angelica has beautiful arias and short sad dramatic opera so I listen to it when I want to relax. It is a whole hour of sad arias

I pretty much agree, but I would have put sensa mamma at first place. To me it and the intermezzo which follows is the most beautiful and stirring music in ALL opera! Just me.
