For anyone who is interested in some further historical information: The second place (Fürstenzug) is located in Dresden. It is not only a beautiful place but also one that took important influence on the German reunion in 1990.

After WWII Germany was devided into 4 occupation zones which were monotored by the victorious powers. The Russian occupation zone became an independent country (German Democratic Republic) in 1949, and built a big wall along the border to the other German country, the Federal German Republic. That wall splitted the Germany until 1990. The wall was guarded by the military. Anyone who tried to cross the border was shot.

People in the GDR were increasingly dissatisfied with the social injustices. For example, with a few exceptions, they were not allowed to travel to other countries, practice their religion publicly or express their political opinions freely. The GDR secret service monitored citizens across the board. Anyone who behaved in a way that was "hostile to the state" in this way risked "disappearing" overnight and ending up in prison for years and being tortured.

In 1989, more and more people began to flee to the FRG via foreign countries. They occupied the West German embassies in Prague and Warsaw because they could not be shot or arrested on diplomatic grounds.

At the same time, in the late summer and autumn of 1989, more and more people in the GDR began to demonstrate and protest peacefully. They gathered in more and more cities with burning candles in their hands and protested against the grievances in the country. For the reasons mentioned above, this was very dangerous and there were many violent clashes with the police.

Since the GDR was technically still a Russian occupation zone Eastern Germany's government called in the Russian military to put down the protests. Gorbachev, as head of the Soviet Union at the time, decided not to carry out military action, but instead advocated diplomatic negotiations.

The demonstrations and the images from the embassies of the refugees attracted more and more international attention, putting pressure on the Eastern German government. The churches in Eastern Germany played a major role in this, offering the demonstrators refuge and neutral ground for negotiations with politicians. On November 9, 1989, [Edit: typo] the GDR government finally gave in to the pressure of the demonstrators and opened the border to the Federal Republic of Germany. This was a historic moment that was exemplary for East German Europe, where the other communist systems also collapsed as a result.

It was the first and only time that a people overthrew their government without bloody conflicts and a civil war breaking out. This period is also known as the "peaceful revolutions". To this day, this achievement by the people of East Germany is unfortunately not given enough political and social recognition.

The second place in this video (Procession of Princes) in Dresden is one of the historical locations where these demonstrations took place. It's the mural on the right side. The cathedral in the back is the "Church of our holy lady" which was completely destroyed in WWII. The ruin was left untouched as a memorial to honor the victims of the war. After the German reunion it was rebuilt and GB gave back its holy cross that British soldiers took as a sign of victory. This gesture sealed the German-British consiliation.

The mural on the right is called "Fürstenzug". It consists of 24, 000 hand-painted Meissen porcelain tiles that show all of the former rulers of Saxony. It is close next to the castle where the Royal family of Saxony lived and ruled the country.

The moated castle at the end of the video - Moritzburg - is very close to Dresden, only about 30 km away. It was (one of) the hunting lodge of August "The Strong" the Elector of Saxony III and King of Poland II. He was famous for his physical strength. He also loved luxury, art and culture. Most of the baroque buildings were built upon his request. He indirectly is also responsible for the invention of the famous "Meissner porcelain": To be able to pay his massive expenses he imprisoned a guy that claimed to be able to make gold. The poor guy could not prove his claim but unintentionally invented European porcelain. Which was as worth as gold since Chinese porcelain was almost not affordable and the European Royals were crazy for it. He was imprisoned very close by the Fürstenzug, which was later made of tiles of this porcelain. The whole area breathes history. 😊
